Bruce hydropel or Sure+ waterproof hardwoods?

We are getting a house built and are in need of choosing our floors. Our current home has engineered hardwood and while we love the look, we are not convinced that it will be sustainable long-term for our kids and dog. I was looking into other options and came across Bruce and sure + brands on Home Depot that claim to be waterproof/scratch resistant engineered hardwood flooring. Does anyone have any insight on these two brands or anything similar? We are hoping to stay under five dollars a square foot. Not sold on laminate or vinyl, our first condo that we owned had laminate and while it was nice for the condo, We really want hardwood for our new home. Should we just stick with the engineered hardwood like we had on the old house? Or try one of these other options

Remember 'scratch resistance' is just a sales pitch. All floors are 'scratch resistant' - even cork. So ignore that lovely little buzz word.

The water-proof wood floors are yet to be tested long term in the US market. Not many people (on this forum) have been brave enough to be guinea pigs.

Long-term solutions include stone, porcelain tile and solid hardwood. Those floors will offer decades of life. Solid hardwood and stone can be REFINISHED and therefore offer 60-100 years worth of life.

Just because something 'scratches' (or shows scratches) does NOT mean it is useless or delicate. Stone and porcelain can scratch as well as wood. What LONG-TERM means is it can be refinished = ecologically sound. The more products we PREVENT from ending up in landfill the more we help ourselves live in a clean and sustainable world.

If you do NOT want to live through a 'refinish' (in 20 years) then you will want to purchase 'disposable flooring' such as laminate or vinyl. We do NOT know if the water proof wood floors will last 20 years let alone a refinish.
