Yep. It’s that easy if there’s nothing up there. If you have a second floor, there’s going to be something up there, like plumbing for a toilet, but there’s only one way to find out. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Yes. It’s just a long light fixture

You'll have to rip into it to see. If you're lucky, the fixture is connected about where you'd like to put the pendant. If not, you may need to put a junction box (which would have to remain accessible (via a blank plate) to extend the wire to where you want to hang the pendant.

But again, nothing tremendously arduous about this provided the soffit isn't hiding anything else.
