Sweet Potatoes in a Bag Question

Hi all, I've got some Porto Rico sweet potato slips coming and had a question.

This is my first attempt at sweet potatoes. I've bought two 10 Gallon grow bags (the ones with the velcro door) and was just wondering if I plant them like I would any potato.

Do I plant them low and keep adding soil as they grow higher? I understand that sweet potatoes are very different than other potatoes...hence the question.

Sweet potatoes are not potatoes at all....not even in the same plant family as potatoes!! They are actually the tubers or fleshy roots of a vine that is related to morning glories. And they are grown quite differently from potatoes....no hilling up required. Just a good depth (at least 10") of loose, rich soil to encourage tuber development.

Even the ornamental sweet potatoes sold as container annuals or bedding plants - like 'Blackie', 'Marguerite' and 'Tricolor' - will form edible tubers by the end of the growing season.
