Cabinet pull HELP

last modified: 6 years ago

Who knew cabinet pulls would be so complicated?!

I have narrowed in on cabinet pulls that I like. The Massey pull from Rejuvenation/Semi-Handmade.

However, there are problems. The ship date is quite a ways out. And there is no appliance pull offered. There are larger pulls, but as I need the pulls for a fridge and freezer, my understanding is they must be specifically appliance pulls.

So my questions, in hopes that a hardware obsessed soul here will have some suggestions:

1) Any similar pulls you can recommend? It seems like such a basic style, but the devil is in the details, as we all know. If anyone can recommend a pull in this style that retains the same classic look, I am all ears. A faster ship date would be great. (So would a lower price, but I have accepted that some dreams they cannot be lol.)

2) Can you recommend a complimentary appliance pull? Obviously, it won't be a perfect match, but something that coordinates well with this style.

3) Finish question - I am doing unlacquered brass. Is all unlacquered brass the same color? I would be hesitant to buy hardware from different brands due to the finish not matching. "Satin brass" can look different from brand to brand, ykwim. But to my mind, unlacquered brass is unlacquered brass. The finish should be the same, regardless of brand, because essentially there is no finish on top. Is that the case? Or is my hopeful brain making up lies?

Check out this post. She uses unlacquered brass pulls. It is a beautiful kitchen. She talks about mixing different hardware. https://erinkestenbaum.com/2019/11/06/one-room-challenge-fall-2019-the-kitchen-reveal/

unkacquered Brass tarnishes...with a gas stove that has pilot lights, very quickly. Ask me how I know. I should have had mine lacquered immediately upon arrival, before installation. Instead having yard man polish a few at a time.

Those pulls are really small. If you haven't seen them in person, I'm afraid you might be surprised at how difficult it could be to fit your hand underneath. At the very least order one sample before you get a full lot. You risk damage to your cabinet finish if you aren't able to easily operate the pull with decent clearance from your fingers. Also, you need to make sure all your door and drawer clearances will fit with the pulls you choose.

Now about the brass, I am astonished you could find something that is marketed as solid cast brass for that low of a cost. It's just phenomenal and makes me wonder if something is going on with that. Solid, unlacquered brass will develop a patina in time and even when new hardly looks as bright and shiny as the photo you have linked. Unless you are prepared for the living finish that brass has to offer, you are better off with something different. Start your research with Horton Brasses. They can make any appliance pull you want, and all their products are genuine solid brass with various finishing options.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

To be clear - I have before and continue to live with unlacquered brass. I have no problem with a living finish. I know what I am getting into with that. What I have never done is mis-match unlacquered brass fixtures, so I was wondering if they were all the same tone. Thank you for that link, kelleg-69! It is a beautiful space. She says that the unlacquered brass hardware should blend together "with time", though, which does have me wondering still - how different do the finishes look now?? I don't mind mixed metals, but I don't want two handles just popping out from the others.

Horton Brass looks lovely, but none in the style I am after. I have not seen these specific Rejuvenation pulls in person, and I doubt I will have time to do so - they are not even in stock for a month! And their shipping is always so slow. I do have other Rejuvenation unlacquered brass hardware, though, and I have always been pleased with the quality. Very heavy and solid, and they are definitely showing a patina with use. And were actually nowhere near as bright as the unlacquered brass Rohl faucet they are next to.

I appreciate more suggestions people have for similar styles to the one I like!

Looks like Rejuvenation has that exact same pull in as large as 18" center-to-center. I imagine that would work for your appliances. I'd also encourage you to go larger with your cabinetry pulls just for safety of your cabinetry coating. Nothing wears a coating faster than fingers rubbing the finish underneath a small pull. https://www.rejuvenation.com/catalog/collections/large-massey-drawer-pull/products/5859c4be01925bf76d00823c

I'm thinking about using the 18 inch massey pulls for the appliances. Hoping they will work. It looks like this kitchen used them but Im not positive. https://puresaltinteriors.com/seaside-abode
