Looks like an earwig to me. I'd personally consider it a foe, but I should look it up to be certain. The do bite.

They are omnivorous so feed on various insects (aphids, mites, thrips, etc.), decaying organic matter and from time to time, flower buds and fruits, especially roses, dahlias, strawberries and beans and peas.

Thank you gardengal and roxanna. I noticed my rudbeckia 'herbstsonne's leaves looked tattered especially at the bottom I wasn't sure what is causing them until I looked closely and found these insects which might be the culprit?
