Hmm, the only change mentioned in that post that I am seeing is the "Best Answer" one, which we all agree is annoying and serves no purpose, and is also mysterious as to how the "Best Answer" is chosen.

I am not seeing the re-order of newest answer first, either on my laptop or on my devices.

I have always seen, for years, the thread shortened by the hyperlink "Show More Comments". But only on my phone. It hasn't really bothered me.

As I mentioned in the thread melle linked to, I don't see ANY of this - no reordering of comments, no best answer, no read more, no changes at all!! Therefore, these are unlikely to be permanent changes as they seem to be random in their application and who can see them.

If it provides any help for others, I access only via GardenWeb (never Houzz) and only on my laptop under Windows 10. I also never sign out.

You will only see "best answer" and the messed up order of posts if you're on Houzz. If you're on gardenweb.com you won't see any changes. It happened to me, and someone was kind enough to provide a link back to Gardenweb. I'll try to pass on the favor.

I just started seeing things this way on Dec Conversations, not here on KT yet. People were complaining on Dec Convos about this problem before I had the pleasure of experiencing it. Ridiculous user interface.

Melle, here is a posts started on Building, that Emily/Houzz commented on, so she might go back to read. Post you "feedback" there too. Many are seeing several issues, so you aren't the only one.

I'm with GardenGal, with not seeing any of these issues. I never use Houzz to access my forums, my bookmarks are all GardenWeb.

I only see "Best Answer" on my phone, not my laptop... and I use Chrome on both. For a short time, I saw the reordering of answers on my phone, not my laptop, but I don't see that anymore. I don't see "Read More" anywhere. It's all so strange.

Do they not know how much their patronage dislike the constant, confusing changes? I understand site improvements, but I have seen little in the way of that. Just a regular revision of how things function in these forums that makes one wonder WHAT the heck and WHY the heck. It's baffling. Like we are all a part of some weird IT experimentation.

The new format sorts responses by the latest. So you have to resort to read the thread chronological, which is the logical way.

What qualifies a Best Answer? Why someone clicked like, of course. We don't need to be told some post is the best.

What I would like to see are direct comments to a particular post. So if I'm replying to XXX, my reply indents and is under XXX's post, rather than way down the page. It makes it less confusing for others thinking you're replying to their post instead.

@User - your issue is easily resolved by simply citing the name of the commenter you are replying to, the way I've done here. You also can copy and paste the comment you are replying to, the way I've done here. It's so easy. I find threads with a ton of indents difficult to read, and often people reply to the last comment, which makes their comment be indented, but they were actually replying to the OP, which is more confusing than the two methods I've cited here.

I have done that, but I find a direct response directly under the post much easier to follow. Before this group, most of us were on another group (we got sent to Disneyland often, without the fun of it) and that's how it was set up. I found it much easier to follow what's going on without having to copy and paste the persons name you wanted to respond to. Simply hit "reply" and your response went directly under the post.

@Shannon_WI...many people don’t know about hyper texting someone’s “handle”, in order to call a reply to their attention. Or, they just don’t know how to do it. Just in the past two days, I’ve read posts to this effect.

A few minutes ago, I happened to check back on a thread I’d posted on, and found the OP asked me a question, without @darbuka. I wouldn’t have known about it, if I hadn’t decided to revisit the thread. Yesterday, there were two posts with people asking how to do it. I think being able to answer directly, with the new post indented, makes sense. It’s also how most blogs I visit, function.

Debbie, if you are referring to the old GardenWeb under Spike, the comments were always presented in chronological order, with the most recent comment last. I've been here since the very start. Never in reverse order - no option for that - and never indented. If you were responding to a particular comment, quoting what you were responding to helped with any clarification. And if you wanted to alert a particular poster, you called them out by name. The intention is to respond to the thread, not individual posters. It has never been otherwise.

btw, if it was the site that sent you Disneyland, it was THIS site, just under previous ownership :-)

darbuka, I know how to copy and paste and add links, etc. But I don't always use my computer. Most times, I'm here on my phone and the copy and paste thing is a real pita.

And gardengal48, it wasn't this site. It was the another one (That Home Site?). Spike never ran Better Homes and Gardens. Mind you, THIS site is why a few of the members from here created our own private group that has been running over 20 years without a single argument. Nada one. ;) It was the "shave down there" thread that was flagged and removed that made us form our own private group that we can talk about everything and anything and nobody runs to the moderators to have "offensive" threads removed.

In Windows 10, Firefox Browser, I am seeing a "sort by" option where you can choose to sort comments by oldest or newest.

The first comment is the Featured answer. Then the comment section of the others with the sort by option to it's right.

@User...you are correct...Spike ran That (The?) Homesite...which was the predecessor to the GardenWeb.

I wasn‘t talking about cutting and pasting links. I was discussing hyper texting, I.e., highlighting in green (as I did your name). When you do this, Houzz sends an email, alerting you that someone either mentioned your name in a post, or was asking you a direct question. It’s why you received an email, telling you about my reply to you. You did not hyper text my name, therefor, Houzz did not alert me to your reply. I just happened to check the thread, and saw it. Hyper texting is easily done from an iPhone or iPad. I rarely use my computer. The iPad is how I interact with the internet, 99% of the time.

Only sends me an email if I choose them to: I turned off all emails in my preferences.

And I do that as well.... :)

The original comment asks two questions and I will address the title first. I will comment without reading the whole thread about another posters comment unless the thread is older then I scroll down to see when the last comment was made. There have been too many resurrected posts from spammers not to do that.

So far some of the changes mentioned by others have not affected what I see on the screen. I still have to scroll to the bottom although there is an arrow on the lower right side pointing upward. A change that has affected me is because of upgrades on my computer I have to sign in frequently. Some of my names and passwords are not always accepted. Then the next change they will be.

I've been here since the Spike days and IIRC, it was Gardenweb then, too. I think the url was ths.gardenweb.com. That Home Site was the section with home, cooking, craft, etc. forums. The gardening forums, etc. were in separate sections. Spike ran the whole thing.

Gardengal48 is correct, this is what was the 'That Home Site' forums. If you're here you're on That Home Site at gardenweb.com, it's just under different ownership and on a different server. They just took away the name and dumped all the forums together.

I think being able to respond directly would turn this into another Facebook. No thanks. This place has always been unique IMO and I like it that way.
