Will this affect house foundation due to potential stagnant water?

Hi, on the market to look for a house, just saw one house, on its back yard, there is "iron separator" ~1 feet away the foundation, which prevent grass grow near to foundation, and a layer of pebbles inside it (please see the picture). This seems will cause the stagnant water along the foundation, especially after big rain, over time, it is not good for the foundation, right? Please advise, did I worry too much? Thank you !

The foundation should be immune from water. In-ground swimming pools are made with concrete. Good luck house hunting!

Undoubtedly the steel edging only extends down maybe 3-4 inches. On the house side, the layer of pebbles would likely extend down about the same distance. Any rain water or porch runoff into the pebble area will simply soak down into the ground - just like on the lawn side of the steel edging.

I would not be at all concerned.

A house I built near an underground stream included 5 feet of gravel backfill to act as a reservoir for any excess water till it drained away.

So, no, a few inches of gravel is not a danger.
