If the door(s) opens into the room what about a long Venetian blind. It could be cut to fit just outside of the glass and depth is @ 1" so no impact when door is open. We have this at the cottage - mounted on the door itself - and when open, you can't see the blind at all.

Do you need the windows to be uncovered when you don't have guests? I'd probably just get some frosting film and frost the glass. You might not even need to frost to the top part of the windows, unless you have very tall household members or visitors.

Roman shade? I like this look.

Another option is regular drapery panels with the curtain rod mounted above the door. So the doors are framed by them like a window.
