Traditional sectional, sofa/loveseat combo, or chaise sectional?

We’re getting our floors redone in the fall and will be getting new living room furniture. This is where we hang out mostly (we haven’t finished our basement family room yet). We have 2 small children (4 years and 7 months), so functionality is a must! I really wanted a sectional but feel like they’re bulky sometimes. Then I thought about a chaise sectional because they’re a little smaller. But I also like the idea of two pieces?

It would run basically where the rod blob is on the picture below. I figured we could get a chair to put I the room if we feel we still need something. We are also going to repaint and will get an area rug and a new coffee table (round).

Should we go with sectional, chaise, or set? Thanks!

IMO sectionals are the most expensive seating for 2 people to be comfortable, comfort icomes with armrests that is why most people love a cahir. Get a sofa and 2 chairs because next to sectionals loveseals are just as bad.

That’s not really a very big space to be considering a sectional. I’d do what Patricia suggests.

for your space I would suggest a sofa and chairs, it will provide for more configurations in the room and wont make the room feel like it's all sectional as it's a fairly small space. you could get recliners if you like the idea of putting your feet up and lounging.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting thanks! Our TV is in the corner in the bottom right of the bottom picture (you can see our daughter there). We’re doing a corner fireplace there as well. So would you suggest leaving the sofa where it is and doing two chairs where the loveseat is now? Like this pic?
