help with tile color

We just got our kitchen cabinets painted. We would like to remove the 4” granite backsplash and add a tile backsplash, but I’m struggling with color. I don’t want the kitchen to be shockingly white but I am leaning toward a shiny white subway tile with lots of movement. Probably white grout but maybe super light gray? I know I don’t want a dark tile, and I don’t want white tile with black grout.

Our appliances and faucet are stainless steel, we are also trying to decide between black and nickel knobs... i also want to explore moving our outlets to under the upper cabinets, assuming that would pass code, but not sure how one does that if the cabinets and counters are already in...

Thanks for any help!

It can't be too white with the (very fabulous) floor and counters. By "movement" do you mean sort of rippled handmade look? I think that would look really good. Glossy white not-quite-smooth.

An electrician should be able to convert the backsplash outlets to Plugmold or something similar without much fuss IF the current wiring is all up to date code-wise. If it's not, you might be required to do all kinds of stuff to update everything. It's worth getting an estimate to see!

You have a lovely kitchen. Yes to the Plugmold. That should not be difficult.

Before you concern yourself with “movement” (and if by movement you mean white marble, that’s not a great choice) you have to find the right white to match the white of your cabinets. This means ordering a lot of sample tiles. How would you feel about a shape other than subway?

Would you consider adding a piece of trim to your crown molding to take the cabinets all the way to the ceiling?

The floor is great but that linear pattern and strong color would make me pick a shaped tile / soft arabesque or that shell shape seen lately? How bout a shape?actually does the floor need some work? Those lighter boards and so on? Maybe a refinisher could remedy some things , or ???

    Thanks all!!

@fori Good idea about plug mold. Does that require new wiring to be put in from the panel and run through the cabinet, or could the wiring of the current outlets be fed up through the cabinet somehow?

@eam44 I would LOVE the cabinets to go all the way up! Really not sure why they aren’t already that way. Is that easy enough to do? Just add more moulding? And my movement I mean that ripply not completely flat look, that allows the shine to show different shades/hues of white. Sort of like the attached picture. To be honest, I have no energy or time right now to go through tons of samples. Am hoping to find something quickly and easily. And I don’t want to spend a ton because this is not our forever home.

@herbflavor I’m not sure about a shape; I guess it depends on the shape? I’m going for a timeless, classic look. I love the herringbone look but that’s linear again. Do you have an example of the arabesque or shell shape? And yes, floors are very old and need work. Maybe the next project we’ll see.

@eam44 should I look for a tile that’s the pretty much the same color as the cabinets? I wasn’t sure if I should do that or add a super light gray hue or?
