Lighting design help for asymmetrical island

Where is the center of my island? It turns on both ends and those are even an unequal distance. From one side it looks like you could center them to the main part of the bar top, but then it would look off if you stood on the other side by the sink. The contractor thinks we should just do all recessed lights and not worry about pendant lights. I'd love to add pendants lights but the perfectionist in me can't see how I could do it and not be annoyed by the asymmetry. The original purpose of redesigning our light is to get rid of the giant fluorescent light, just having trouble with what to do instead! Thanks!

When you cannot center geometrically, center for function, over your sink - or just pick the most striking feature, the pillars, and center between them.

When you center for function in an asymmetric plan, choose an asymmetric pendant spray. The asymmetry doesn’t bother you in the island, you’ll get over it in the pendants.

And the center light will not be centered over your sink because your sink is not centered.

There's a lot of stuff going on as viewed into the kitchen: walls at several angles, doors and cabinets at various heights. Maybe pendants would look cluttered while recessed lights would look streamlined. I wonder whether LED tape lights attached to the tops of the long row of cabinets might work, reflecting off the angled wall above. Above the fridge, too.

RibbonFlex Pro White LED Tape Light 120 LEDs/meter - 120 LEDs per meter (about 36 LEDs per ft.) – to produce 1400 lumens of light output per meter (about 420 lumens per ft.)

...which is equivalent to about a 100 watt incandescent bulb each yard.
