You have a regular electrical outlet and a gas (natural or LP / Propane) hook up.

No hook up for an electric dryer.

Like you said, you need an outlet for a dryer that takes the big 4 prong cord.

A 220-240 Volt dryer outlet.

To be clear. They can not simply replace the receptacle guts shown in the picture with a four-prong set... you've got only 120 Volts available, a dryer will require 220 Volts.

As georgect said, your new home is set up for a gas dryer, not an electric dryer!

Do you have gas service? Is your current dryer gas or electric. If it's gas and you have natural gas available, It might be worth it to get it installed. Depending on where you live, propane may not be cheaper to use than electricity.

Energy cost for dryer operation is not as significant as heating/cooling or hot water.

That all depends on how much laundry you do. When we had kids the gas dryer was a big win.

It is still small compared to energy cost for hot water or heating/cooling.

It does appear that you have an outlet for a gas dryer. Gas dryers only require a regular outlet for a plug to run the timer for the dryer.

You are not 'missing' a dryer outlet. You are set up for gas. The outlet there will work just fine for that.

Is the rest of the house set up for gas appliances? Range (or cooktop and wall oven)? Central heating? Water heating? Outdoor kitchen/grill on a patio?

Did you have this house custom-built or is it a spec-house? Either way, you built or bought a house without knowing (or asking or specifying) what sort of utilities feed into it?
