Does this counter look okay?

Our kitchen is almost finished and the counter just went in. I’m wondering if it’s okay that it is not exactly the same tone as the cabinets? With the pandemic I had to make all the decisions off the internet and was never able to travel and see the samples in the space. Hopefully it’s not too noticeable if it isn’t perfect. I haven’t seen in person yet:) thanks for your thoughts!

From my monitor, it looks fine.

It looks good from here! Personally, I think it's better that your whites cabinets and counters complement each other (rather than trying to match exactly). This looks very clean and soothing. I looks like you have a lovely view from your sink window. It's going to be a pleasure at cleanup time. :)

Thanks for your responses! Colour decisions are not my strong point. That’s a good point to think about whites complementing vs matching.

All nice on my monitor, too. Nicely done! What paint and counter did you choose?

    Looks fantastic!

Okay you have all helped to ease my mind. I will try and mix in some more whites with decorating I think to make things look intentional. Cabinets are Sherwin Williams Alabaster and counter is LG minuet:) the whole house is Alabaster so I went with that but was second guessing if I should have done a true bright white.

Now is the time to look at color. Have you selected your backsplash material yet? I would look for a tile which includes the white of your counter plus some additional colors in veining....or a light solid color which you love...a pale blue or aqua or soft green. Add a window treatment which picks up on your accent color. If a neighbor can see into your kitchen, add a light-filtering window shade for privacy. I always have some art in my kitchen or breakfast area for additional color, coordinated towels and potholders, a ceramic pot to hold utensils near the stove. I also like to paint the walls in my accent color: in the kitchen, there isn’t a lot of walls to paint, but the color can be refreshing. I have a soft apple green in my current kitchen which picks up the green in my granite counter (white background, some green, gray, a bit of black and tan).

Oh eek I have no clue about backsplash. One option they suggested was 2” of the counter top and then just having panelling? Otherwise I will look into some tiles to sample. I love the aqua idea

Janice, my very first thought was it might be Alabaster. Nice choice and thx for the counter info, too. :-)

A 2” backsplash will not protect the walls from splashes. Turn that idea down. A tile backsplash which goes from the counter to the cabinets, up to the exhaust fan over the range, and up to the window trim will give you a touch of color.
You can even have the backsplash tile surround your window if desired. I like a softer version of the backsplash color for wall paint, but you may prefer to have the white kitchen with just touches of color.

For the backsplash..panelling may lean “ country” and a strip of the counter material will look like a tract house...the pale color tile is a great option if you have to make a decision now...but since it is considered the jewelry of the kitchen ..waiting til more of the space is done is preferable

Hmm it is on a lake so I’m okay with country/ cottage look but I want something durable. I’ll order some pale colour samples but wait until more is done to decide. Anyways I don’t think I have it in me to make another decision right now!

This is stunning! Did you paint the walls, trim, ceiling, everything with Alabaster? That’s what I am intending to do with our new house, and we are going for country/cottage as well, timeless over trendy. How did it turn out? I’m nervous!

I am happy with how it turned out! everything is Alabaster although different sheens

Oh my, that is so lovey! Fantastic job!! Yes, we will do different sheens as well. Our ceilings are vaulted so we will be incorporating beams from a cabin we reclaimed from the property as well, which will hopefully go well with the warmth of Alabaster. Hooray!! Thank you so much! May I ask how you like your “backsplash”, it looks to be beadboard? That’s my intention as well but my husband is concerned about durability.

Janice, your kitchen is great! Enjoy it.

Love it! The light fixtures are really beautiful. Is the backsplash new? Even if it isn’t it goes well with the new things.
