People keep suggesting that I place items on the shelf along with a painting but I am hesitant.

You have enough going on. You could paint it 2-3 darker than bottom wall. But no art. Would look strange too high.

Or if deep enough add big palms to go with your theme. With very tall 5-6 ft pots in red. With the palms bring one forward and add a pot behind it then a palm behind and to the side. You have to play with it to get it right.

How about a mural or some kind of script? A family portrait? A huge clock/art piece? Different sized and colored family initials? A sculpture for the wall, the kind with bling in it?

Humma, currently there is too much going on in this space. Need to decide on look you want to project & work with that.....what furniture style do you have?

How about making it a feature wall with your TV installed ? Cheap and easy

These are some pictures of the room but a new sofa and pillows are ordered. The sofa will have a soft cast of green in the white. It will have a rounded back corner section and both sides will have 3 cushions. The current couch is a disaster and the manufacture is making a new one. None of the cushions lay smooth. The 2 lithographs were done by an artist who is a friend of my husband and are signed, so they will stay. I am also questioning the lamp between the white chairs as well as the floor lamp in the corner. Kidney pillows for the white chairs are a bold stripe picking up the color of the drapery fringe and the parsons chairs next to the buffet.
