If no sign of vine borer see if bacterial wilt fits your symptoms.

Did you look towards the crown/root for damage... a bite, chomp or borer hole?

I did look its hard to see because I am leaving the plant and hoping for a miracle. I might pull it today since I doubt it is coming back.

It may just be thirsty or hungry. Try giving it a liquid feeding and see if it perks up

Definitely not a water issue. Rained hard the day before (most water it ever got) and all other plants perfect, including part of this one.

Could be a water issue as in too much water. Possible root rot situation.

Maybe I knew someone would say that. It came on around 12 hours after the rain. More importantly it was perfectly fine until the sun came out and it warmed up. it recovers at night - just like when cucumber beetles kill cucumber vines. Each time it comes back less and is basically now dead. Part of the plant is ok so cutting it down to look at it might kill the other half - it's hard to tell but I am not taking the chance. This is means it is not a root issue. Half the plant ok other half dead. Slim chance it is a different plant - I often plant 2, but they are literally 2 inches apart. For one to be perfect and the other dead - it has to be a vine issue. I checked again for bore holes - nothihg visible.

You can't always spot their holes but the base of the stem will look unhealthy.
