Remodel impacting front door

We are building onto the front of our 1980 courtyard style house. As a part of that, we will be eliminating the front door. I don’t know that we can, but I’d like to convert the doorway in a way that would allow me to preserve the grass cloth in its entirely. I’d love your ideas. I’ve thought about a shoe closet...and it will be facing another closet and is in a hallway. I apologize that the image is sideways.

We are building a new exterior room on the other side of the door. My designer rightfully wants to pull the door and casing out and go back with drywall. This makes perfect sense, but we have this grass cloth everywhere and if I could, I’d like to leave it intact. I’d prefer to be able to retrofit that casing with shelving, some some of built in cabinetry or maybe even a closeted shoe closet. just looking for ideas. Thank you.

All your ideas are great; a built in shelf or a closed shoe closet - both possible. I think your grasscloth would be fine. Make sure you express your reservations/concerns to the contractor/ demo team that will be removing the front door. Good luck on your project.
