MDF Bench top for Roman Clay Plaster Finish

Hello,
I was looking to build a built-in bench, using MDF as a bench top supported on 2x4 framing. Do you think this would be strong enough for a bench? Reason I want MDF is because I am trying to achieve a smooth finish for plastering as shown below. Thanks.
