Is this an ongoing project? or is there a deadline?

It is ongoing. They send them every year. There were 22,000 destroyed in the explosion, now there is even more need.

Was thinking about sewing the squares together at retreat.

That will work. I can bring a bunch of squares and we can all make a top. I can send finished tops to a friend and her quilt group will tie them.

What a terrible waste of needed goods. One wonders why 22,000 quilts were being stored and hadn't been distributed. I suppose even distribution is complicated in a country such as Lebanon. So sad.

Lois, I found this info from the first link Beverly posted. The blast destroyed three of our 40-foot shipping containers, which were stored in the port and held more than 22,000 LWR Mission Quilts, 100 cartons of School Kits, 300 cartons of Personal Care Kits and 125 cartons of Baby Care Kits that were being prepared for distribution.

I got this back from my friend:

We send quilts once a year but delayed this year. finished quilts 60 by 80” tops only as well or squares 10 1/2”. If a quilt is quilted we don’t turn it down. We tie them in house. We meet twice a month. Not sure about fleece.

I think if we use 10 inch squares and add a border it will be good. We can make tops and send them to her group to tie.

Beverly, are you sending backing fabric also, or just the tops? I will see what I can do if you let me know the address to send to.
