I’m not a pro, but are you absolutely sure you need a mirror on that wall? Usually mirrors are placed to reflect more light through windows, a beautiful chandelier, or a great view. Maybe there’s a better spot in the house for it, and a large painting might add a little more personality instead? If not, then I like the lower position.

Can't tell how wide your sofa is, but a mirror above it shouldn't be wider than the sofa, and it is not reflecting anything interesting or beautiful. A mirror is the wrong choice here, IMO. Look for some art to love. Is that a fireplace chimney breast across from it? If you show us the entire room, we might come up with some solutions for you, but the mirror is just not doing you any favors.

I would go lower level. But I agree wall art would be better choice.
