    A pic would help!

Agree with comments above by robinswfl - there are several different types of cylindrica. I have only 2 different types now, one grows quite long, it has at least 3 spears that are 26" long (the photo doesn't show them all):

Sans above grows quite fast, original plant had only 4-5 spears when bought; I divided it 2yrs ago since the 8" pot was very crowded. I ended up with additional 6 pots, 4 of them 6"...

The other one is much shorter, just few inches. I have it for about 6 weeks now, it had 2 tiny pups that had doubled in size since:

thank you so much guys! and yes I just looked its a "boncel" type. and should I repot it since I got it from a nursery? or just let it grow and do its thing?

Be careful with the tips of the leaves. I have a similar sans and it has poked holes in my skin more than once.

    Could you post a photo?

It is very good idea to repot newly purchased plants. Very often, the soil they are in is not the best. They may or may not need bigger pot, depends on size of plant. I repotted small one above within 2 days. I did use bigger pot only because plant was in 2.5" pot and I suspected it will grow. But it really depends, and we can't tell without seeing pic of your plant. Repotting gives a chance to use well draining potting mix, and inspect the roots, and whole plant to make sure there is no disease or bugs.

The soil doesn’t look the best so I’m probably going to go get new soil today. If I get new soil do I have to knock the old soil off?

Andrew, it won't die for a day or 3 in that soil, but if mine, I would replace the mix. I would knock off a lot of the old soil. But make sure you add in something for aeration--at minimum, perlite. (It's time consuming and a pain, but I do suggest you sift the perlite to get rid of the dust, then wash it -- you can do that right in an old kitchen sifter or colander). You can find LOTS of photos on Houzz, mostly from old GardenWeb people, of Sansevieria and especially cylindrical. Just do a search and limit it to the succulents/cactus category.

I bought a Boncel maybe 4-5 years ago -- bought from a local grower who sells many different plants, and he buys his Sans and other succulents from yet another local grower. Well, my adorable little 5" boncel grew fast, as Rina describes above. Pretty soon, it was in an 8-inch pot. It had grown another pup which also became fat and large....and pretty soon I had a 12" plant on my hands. It was heavy and cumbersome, so I gave it away to a neighbor who planted Sans in the ground, and he gave it a happy pot-free home outside! Just warning you....some of these can grow QUITE large.

I have a whole bag of perlite so I will probably do what you said. I'm hoping it grows somewhat fast but considering daylight hours are getting shorter I really don't expect it to grow much but maybe it will surprise me.

I sift or rinse perlite using a large kitchen sieve/sifter, to get rid of dust and smallest particles.

Most succulents indoors will grow year-round, because indoors is warm even during winter. It may grow slower but most likely you'll see some growth by spring.
