I thought I did. I went to pottery barn and the color on the walls was recommended by two people and had a couch sample with me. Arrrgh.

How about pulling the rug over and placing it lengthwise, so the front feet of the sofa is on it? You might be able to find some drapery panels with beige and gray that will tie the two colors together.

I’ll most like get a new rug. I’m 72 and painted the walls myself. Can’t do it again even though it would be the fix.

Super impressed you painted that room with high ceilings yourself! A bigger rug with the right colors will make a big difference for the sofa color. So will a sofa throw and toss pillows in a third color (an accent color). The sofa doesn’t look centered on the window, and if not then switching the side tables might give you more room to center the sofa. Each drape should be about 2 - 2.5 times the window width. I think adding 2 more drape panels will help. The hardwood floor trend seems to be going away from orange/yellow/brown/red tones towards light gray stain or pale (Scandinavian) stain on wood floors.

Maybe add some beige linen panels with you existing curtains, it will balance it all, some artwork with colours combined. You will be fine with all the other advice given. Well done you for all your painting work

Colors hard to tell. Are the lamp shades a typical linen-natural color? and are the curtains and the sofa also? then it's worth trying rug and accessories with the neutrals combined.

Btw, your floors might add a good warmth as they currently are.

Just option if you buy a solid rug, or not patterned.

Not sure why you need to touch the floors. Instead - remove the fireplace mantel and put artwork there. Some color is needed in that area. Lower the TV and consider changing out some of the end tables - since they are all the same.

agree with Irene that the trick is to balance the sofa with some additional features, like curtains, in that color. the sofa doesn't look dirty at all to me, you made huve change and your eyes just need to adjust. to me, everything is neutral and works together. just add some more beigey touches, maybe have some of that color in the rug. looking great!!! what a huge job you accomplished, wow.

Girl, I am 72 too. Love your house, but .....Get some color into the room..pick a color you like . ...Navy curtains...colorful rug...

Hint—-don’t buy artwork...get out ...take some pictures...pick a beauty and frame it.. open those curtains..or take them down...get some sunlight into the room... stay safe and healthy

You didn't say about the sofa color and if anything in the room is the same color...

Curtains above are Belgian linen in Ivory from Pottery Barn. I think with the size of your windows, you might have to get the panels made

You need a rug large enough that at least the front legs of all the seating pieces are ON the rug. A piece of art
or a mirror would be nice over the mantel. The TV should be lower over the console. The wires under the console
cabinet should be wrapped together and taped to the back of the console so they don’t show except for the ends
plugged into the outlet.

The windows are 118 inches from the top of the window to the floor. I’m thinking I should lower the rod so I don’t have to buy custom.

I like the couch. Really think before refinishing your floors. It is time consuming and very messy/Dusty. We have decided to pull up our existing hardwood and replace with new

Why not select drapery panels that bridge the gap between your gray walls and linen sofa.

The current panels don't look very good because they are rod pockets and don't form any pleats. Either try grommet top panels or the rod pockets that form pleats.

Make sure the panels are DARKER than your sofa. That will make your sofa lighter by comparison

• If your floors are Oak, look for a butterscotch or honey or tan stain to lighten up the color (will also make the room feel bigger), please stay away from reds and oranges, which are out of favor. Definitely do a matte/flat finish because the polished look is out of favor and “dates” a room.

A very good idea to lower the drape rod to avoid cost of custom drapes. If you don’t have 10” from ceiling to window, look for window mullion like green like in photo below, or line rod up with the bottom of the gables. Leaving top panes uncovered makes it look like a transom and will let in more light. Drapes should be 2.5 times window width. Pleated (pinch pleat, grommet, or back tab pleated) drapes will look more polished than rod pocket.
