We usually only have one or two groups, maybe three. Each of those groups are one to three children. If we are home this year. We have had more, but it is not usual anymore.

I am going to put candy in a bag and tie it shut with curling ribbon. I will then put the bags in my orange plastic candy tub and set outside with the candy on a table down the sidewalk a ways. That way it is no contact.

I wish I had a good answer... but i don't. I hate to say it, but there non-community visitors who would take it all if I just put out a basket by the stairs.

We don't get as many treaters as we'd like either. I think a lot of people take their kids to their houses of worship for Halloween these days. We do get a few though. This year I plan to actually decorate, which normally I don't manage to get done in time. It has been such a yucky year that I would like to do what I can for the youngsters.

CA Kate, I know what you mean, sometimes it can be uncomfortable, like when larger teenagers who aren't in costume come by. Otoh, better them than me with the eating. I feel like as long as I'm not handing out full size bars, it won't attract anyone with an agenda. Ha, what I almost wish I could do would be to hand out dental floss with the candy.

Or something with a foot lever, that might be fun. It's a shame I don't have a way to actually do these things. I would love to do something with matchbox cars but I have no idea where they are in the garage. Hmm, you know I could just roll them down the driveway. I bet I could attach a small candy trailer to the back.

The problem with that is, they might want to keep the cars. Hmm. I could maybe just slide the candy down the track ... but, I still have to locate where the tracks are. Now would have been a great time to have one of those mini train sets.

I thought there was no trick-or-treating this year.

I am going to have a gate across the driveway and allow the kids to come up spaced apart and help themselves from a decorated area with a table. I am making a Halloween fairyland path full of pumpkins and flowers. I'll be ten feet away with a cord on the gate to let the little groups in. One gate for coming in and another archway in the yard to go out. We get less than 50 and I really don't know if we will see any this year but this is my plan. A very glittery Halloween. I'm a sparkle witch this year.

I can only manage to put up some simple streamers. I haven't bought the candy yet, I need to do that soon.

Socks - you make a good point. I think in some places, it is being discouraged. I am hopeful though that if we all stay a ways apart and try to not touch the wrapped candy, maybe we will get some little ones. Parents already tend to be cautious on Halloween anyway, and at least it's outside.

I do think the kiddies deserve it. It has been a bummer of a year.

Is there a state request not to pass out candy this year?

We bought one bag of Costco candies. The other day I saw it is already open. My wife has been sneaking some already. At this rate none will be left for halloween day. And we will be all safe.

We went from a house at the end of a country lane and ONE TOTer in 33 years, to the most famous Halloween street in town!

The last few years we have lived here we have had 1500 TOTers by the time we shut down at about 9:00! And we're at the unfashionable end! Mid-block gets as many as 5,000! The mansion usually has a big themed (free) thing. This is the mansion where Pollyanna was filmed (also on the block was scream and shadow of a doubt)

Needless to say, there will be NO social distancing with these mobs, so we'll be opting out! (you can look up McDonald Ave. Halloween to get a glimpse of years past!)

We still did some decorating, but loaned most of our stuff to the local high school for a drive through spook house.

That was a very generous thing to do, nancyjane. Since we don't get many kids here in a normal year, we felt okay about putting some candy out on a small table. Depending on how we count, we got either 13 people, or 7. (There was one time when I only saw one person walking away, and maybe they took all 6 baggies. That's okay, maybe they were going to hand it out to their friends. Plus we ended up with a lot left.) However, if one normally gets tons of people, then I agree that there's no real way to distance.

Well anyhow, I hope it will be back to normal next year.

We have 600+ kids from out of the neighborhood every year. This year? Zero. Threw the candy in the garbage this morning so we wouldn’t treat ourselves.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear it, mcbmd3 - I guess the parents were too worried about crowds. Can't say I blame them. I had to stop by work so I put the candy out there.

I was bummed to not have a single trick or treater this year. We never have very many, but this year we had none. My 11 year old son went out with his Dad, and they had a good time. Many houses didn't turn a light on, and they respected that. Some left candy in baskets at the door or at the sidewalk, and they respected that. Most people were excited to see him. A few behaved strangely. Twice he had things hurled at him at a way that made him uncomfortable, so it was shorter than normal.

We had 4 or so visitors as opposed to 20+. This is my pumpkin. Took about 30 min to do. The fastest I have ever done and at the last moment.

Well I would put out a large plastic tub full of candy, put a sign asking the kids to take 2 pieces of candy so there's candy for other kids. Would put the tub if candy on the front porch or at the bottom of the stairs.

Another way to pass out Halloween candy is to get a few packs of treat bags, put a bit of candy in them, tie with an orange ribbon. Then put all the treat bags in a big plastic tub. Leave on porch or at the bottom of stairs. With a sign to Please Only Take 1 Bag per Kid..🎃🎃🍭🍬🍬🍫🍭

Last year was more or less back to normal, in terms of amount of kids (which wasn't really quite enough to begin with).

This year I may sit out at the end of the driveway, bc I realized last year that I don't like waiting around for the doorbell to ring.

Maybe if I decorate more, there will be more customers.

No decorations this year as we will be tenting our house for termites! At least the house will be protected from possible eggs being thrown for not participating!

Ahh! But someone didn't like our house being tented (and us being away on a blues cruise) and came all the way up our walkway to bash our mailbox! This is in town, on a very popular street. They had to go all the way up our walkway to do this! Oh well. Next year we'll be back to decorating and giving out 1500-2000 pieces of candy!
