Hi! Do you have another picture from farther away and showing more of the room, to show how high/long the ledge is relative to other furniture in the room?

The shelf is 5 ft long, is mounted at about 5 ft high, and is 3.5 inches deep.

I don't think the current ledge works for a few reasons.

1. The ledge is not wide enough compared to the size of the wall.
2. The pieces on the ledge are too similar in height and too short
3. Unless something is going below the ledge, it is positioned too high on the wall.
4. The ledge is floating in space by itself. It is not related to anything else near it. Too far from the chair or the dresser to be related and too small in scale to be related to the bed.
5. It looks like you just wanted to place something dead center on the wall.

Because nothing else is on the wall, I would make the ledge relate to the bed. Center it with the bed. Put the ledge at a height just above the height of the outlet. Add 3 large pieces of tall, vertical art to the ledge.

You need more of the ledges and they need to be longer. They get installed end to end across the wall so you have choices of where and how you arrange the items.

Usually, picture ledges are either hung in multiples or if used singly they are anchored by a console table or bench. Right now, it's just floating there with little context.

I'd also find some art that is larger or bolder, as above.

The ledge is actually off center to the centerline of the wall. And it is positioned so that the center of the art is eye level. Would a second ledge, staggered both horizontally and vertically with the first, look better?

Since money is no object in my dreams (*wink!) I would suggest a tall plant in the far right corner by the dresser, add a taller picture to the right-ish side of the shelf and then also a fairly tall piece of art between the shelf and the lamp. Have fun!

I would not stagger the ledges as you suggested. Maybe line them up, one below the other.

I think, if you add another shelf over this one, it will look fine. Take one of the smaller pieces off the lower shelf to add to the upper. Balance the "weight" over the two shelves.

Thank you all for your generosity and the great advice. I have some thinking to do! But I’m leaning toward lowering the first one and adding a second above it. We’ve just downsized from a 2500 sqft single family home to a 1700 sqft condo, where almost every room has a window wall. So there’s much less wall space to hang our years of art. And I have a wandering art sensibility, if I love it, it’s mine! From kitsch to fine art, we’ve bought it all, and are now figuring out how to hang it so we can enjoy it, and change it out without popping too many holes in the walls.

I decided to use the ledge in a second bedroom I’m using as a yoga room. It’s above the tv, and looks great. I’ll hang art directly on the walls in the main bedroom. Thanks again for all your help.
