• Installation instructions for a Maytag pedestal (for front-loaders) state that the washer must be attached to the pedestal.

Pedestal MUST be attached. Washer must be absolutely level, side to side and front to back, checked with a spirit level. Do not trust your floor to be 100% level.

Running the washer without having it attached to the pedestal can result in excessive vibration due to high RPM's in spin cycle, which can strip the leveling leg screws, over time. You may also need to invest in anti vibration rubber squares, which are placed under the pedestal's legs. Mixing a heavy, unbalanced washer load will only exacerbate this problem.

"Absolutely" level is not as important as having the weight evenly supported by all four legs/corners.

1) Get the machine properly attached/anchored to the pedestal
2) Adjust the pedestal legs for reasonably on-target with a spirit level.

Then set it spinning with a load of towels or jeans, or one of the loads that vibrates noticeably ... and adjust one of the front corner pedestal legs so the vibration is as minimal as possible. Stop and restart the spin between leg adjustments if you can't adjust while it's spinning.
