Can you assist with finishing this bathroom design

Undergoing a large renovation. I think I have reached reno paralysis and overwhelmed. Can you view the pics of my very small basement bath and advise of some finishing touches? I didn’t realize til later that contractor didn’t add any electrical for vanity light & fan would be serve as lighting source. Would really appreciate suggestions and open to all ideas. In advance thank you.

hang the mirror. Add a shower curtain (maybe a solid that doesn't compete with the floor pattern). Hand towel ring/bar to the left of the vanity? a small mat/rug in front of the vanity perhaps. This honestly doesn't look bad to me. are you willing to add some paint? or an accent wall?

Yes willing to add anything? What color should I add or just a white shower curtain? Need a few things to make it complete.

What is the distance from the front of the toilet to the front of the vanity?

I am not exactly sure BUT I do know I should of bought a smaller vanity.

Definitely not enough clearance at the toile to meet code.

The space works fine or has for many years we just updated it and should of reworked layout but didn’t.

I'm guessing, then, you didn't pull permits for this remodel? If you did, it won't pass inspection, even if the previous layout was the same.

i am assuming there's a chase for plumbing or something behind that bumped out wall on the left so it can't be removed. I'd probably have built out the wall a bit more to match it and then mounted the vanity more to the left. That toilet placement concerns me too.

I'd probably do a gray waffle weave shower curtain to match the gray in the floor.

Are you willing to replace the mirror with a smaller, rectangular one? That one looks too big, and an awkward shape.

Thisisnotadrill- thank you for your feedback. I agree w mirror size and shape. Gots to go. Thank you

In this case i would change the vanity to a small pedestal sink and add some narrow floating cabinets above the registers on that wall, for prep space, and put mirrors and lights there, even if the lights are slim lamps and sit on the counter.

If the contractor is still on site you should fix this once and for all. Three 2x4s and a sheet of drywall to extend that bump out a foot or so, then the cabinet can move over toward the corner. Fairly minor change that would transform how the bathroom actually works.

    Red line is new wall

exactly what i was saying, but don't have the ability to draw it. kudos to @HALLETT & Co.

Hallet appreciate your suggestion but the bump out is a brick chimney.

A brick chimney should not prevent you from extending the bump out.

Yeah, you're just adding drywall and a few 2x4s.

I think what you did so far looks really nice. I love the floor tile!! I agree with adding to that bump out. And possibly add a chair rail with wallpaper on the upper half of the wall with the vanity on it ... and then just add a nice light fixture

There shouldn’t be a problem with the chimney being in the bump out. It is being suggested to make the bump out bigger, not smaller.

The orange square drawn above is the suggested new placement of the vanity. Moving the vanity there vastly improves access to the toilet area.

Agree about moving the vanity. BTW if permits were not pulled you will have an issue if you ever go to sell your house.

My apologies I understand now....Makes total sense! Unfortunately I took on a large scale renovation & clearly have gotten way in over my head. I will never embark on a renovation wout hiring an interior designer/architect. This bathroom is in my basement and I wasn’t overseeing as close as I should of been. It’s not as simple as HGTV 😁.

Feel like some color is needed, maybe some art or a rug?

the bump-out plan risks getting the vanity too close to the baseboard heater. but sounds like that ship has sailed...

We might recommend hanging the mirror, adding a shower curtain, and also trying to move the vanity over. Here are a few designs of ours to help with your dilemma.
