Well if all sales are final you may be stuck unless you can sell it. With a nice area rug that contains a mixture of colors it may be totally workable. What else are you working with?

I'm not really a design person, so I wasn't planning to put in any rugs/pillows/etc. to accent it. All the furniture I was buying or plan to buy for the room I wanted in light gray, which includes a desk (waiting on that) and dining room set (still deciding on).

A light gray desk will still look fine. It’s not like you wound up with a brown sofa.

That’s said, things happen. I ordered a desk and printer stand after looking at the stores online selections. We went to the actual store to see the quality of this particular line of furniture. Online it came up lighter than the store.

We wound up getting the darker one. My error for nor realizing it came in two choices. I just don’t recall seeing that it had two choice online.

If this really bothers you, I think you are justified in getting a replacement.

I wouldn't mind selling the couch, but I don't want to lose too much money on it (it cost $700 not including tax and delivery; if I can sell it for around $500 I'd be happy).

Just one more question: The reason I wanted a light couch is to hide things like dust and lint, etc. Would that still be possible with the dark couch above? I realize a dark couch would be better at hiding stains and dirt, so it's a plus if it could hide everything.

I can't say I've ever had an issue with dust showing on a couch, and we've had pale, medium, and dark. It gets used, so the fabric moves, and dust doesn't get a thick layer to show. It shows more on hard surfaces. Lint comes in all colors depending on its source. I had a war with with dark purple lint back in collage from a shedding throw blanket (I think it might have improved after a few washings ... sorry college washer/dryers, though I did empty the lint trap ... or I donated it and got something else). Dark purple lint shows on light colors. White doggy fur shows on darker colors. Different breeds of dust bunny ...

I personally like the darker couch...for some reason I think it looks richer and less likely to show spots. With your desk I think it will look good and the lighter dining room set will give you contrast. I think you need an accent color to liven things up....pillows for the couch, center piece for the table, curtains/drapes etc.

Gray couch, gray desk, gray table and chairs is a bit gray overload. Perhaps a different color for the dining set if the Desk is already ordered?

SashaDog, what's your opinion on different shades of gray? I took a picture of the desk I ordered and it's more like a light tan (the color is described as "washed gray"). Compared to the darker charcoal couch and maybe a more in-between gray for the dining set, would there be enough variation? Or would you recommended a non-neutral color?

I think the desk will be a great contrast to the darker sofa. I also think the table will work too. I think you need a rug with a variety of different colors to pull it all together. It’ll be great when it all comes together.

you say you're not a design person? does that mean you can't do accessories to pull things together? no.

your charcoal couch leans to the cooler blue end of the spectrum.

your flooring, bookcase, fireplace tile, are all warmer, yellow tones.

The desk you like is neutral.

(personally I'd change the tile around the fireplace, and lose that orange toned mantle. doing that will help a lot )

bring in a rug to bridge the yellow floors w/the blue gray, and throw on some coordinating colors in pillows

look at the fireplace and some options w/new tile and mantle, how it works better w/sofa. (then I'd suggest painting the wall behind the bookshelves a dark gray, and putting something on the shelves.

They are also, not the same couch. Very different, so naturally, the color of gray will be different. Have the store pick it up and refund your money.
