That does not look at all like vermiculite. Vermiculite is granular. You'd see it as many individual flakes when it spills over onto boards.

I had vermiculite in my previous house; that doesn't look like it...it looks like some kind of cellulose. However, there is no way to confirm that it doesn't contain asbestos unless you test it. A certified lab can examine a small sample for asbestos and give you an answer for less than $100. And if it does contain asbestos, don't do business with the scam artist who -- without testing -- wanted to charge you $15K to remedy a possibly non-existent problem. Finally, if it does contain asbestos, you don't necessarily have to remove it. Even if asbestos is present in your attic it doesn't mean that it poses a risk unless you plan to be up there disturbing it.
