Sectional blues

The anticipation is over with the 9 week wait ending in disappointment. THE couch of all couches (in my head only) got here and I hate it. Actually the couch is lovely, but I think it is wrong for the space. Any opinions or thoughts on if this can work would be tremendously helpful to me.

What do you hate about it?

Haley, I'm not a professional, but am wondering about the proportions of the sectional overwhelming the space because there isn't enough visual weight to balance it in the room? I'm thinking you may need a longer credenza below the TV and possibly either a larger TV or framing the TV with art or photography to make it appear larger. Also, a large rug to ground the sectional that has the same color and a few others in it would help.

@apple_pie_order: I think the scale of the couch is off; the backs need to be lower. I think I needed a lower slung couch to make it work

@MarkCochran: you are right, I need a rug, larger credenza and other items to gussy up the place. I wanted to get the couch first then pull everything in. I do think after I make the changes, my brain will still want smaller scale furniture.

well right now you have a Christmas tree in the room. After the holidays when the tree is gone, you will have more room. But honestly, I think the sectional is way too big for the room. I would def NOT add a credenza, the sectional is eating up the space. Wall mount the tv, (hide the wires) Is there any way the sectional can be returned?

    - Can tv go over fireplace and sectional turned, or

    - Could you use the chaise section in another room like the master bedroom. If you can‘t and like the sectional without it, you could sell It easily.

    - Once this is figured out, an appropriate sized rug will help with balancing the room.

It dominates the space, but the design of the sectional has a streamlined look that I think helps. Overall if you were going for loungey, hang-out feel I think the sectional totally works and the jewel emerald green is lovely! Aside from your Christmas tree, though, no other green elements seem to be in the room. I think what would help are darker walls, a rug with similar emerald green, and a great coffee table.

You could remove either of the end pieces.

Is there any possibility of exchanging it for something else?

It’s a bold (and Beautiful) color- I think it would help to put a rug in, some artwork that picks up the color or a complementary one so the couch is less dominant.

Oh gosh, I’m sorry you don’t like it, and I have zero helpful advice, but I think it’s very pretty!

The pictures are hard to see the layout of the room. But maybe try flipping it. It’s very pretty but seems big. Is there a way to remove a seat?

The sofa color is great but your rooms look washed out compared to the rich teal. Hopefully, the parts of the sofa aren't held together by some ugly contraption! You can separate the chaise from the rest and have a better outcome by putting it where the tree is. Strategically placed tables, baskets and throws can hid any uglies. Pick some colors for accents that you would want to pull into the dining and kitchen area via accessories. Celerie's ideas are one direction. Brights like lime green and orange can add a fun element to the room too. I'd go for fun & funky if I were you!

You need a rug...STAT! Can you stand on the stairs and take another picture? And are you using some funky setting to take these photos—like panorama or wide-angle? There’s just something “off” about the perspective. (Are you standing on a ladder in one of them? If so, don’t do that!😉) Also, if you could post a measured floor plan (don’t forget to include the post!) of the space and the sofa dimensions, as well as the dimensions of the island, that’d be helpful. Sometimes there’s just no good place to take a good photo from!

I'm shopping now for a similar sized sectional and it's really hard to gauge how they will work in the space. I've been looking at Crate and Barrel and one of the sales people there said that buyers always overestimate how much sectional they can fit. Your photos are a little wonky but it almost looks as though the sectional is too close to the TV. If you post a layout with dimensions it might help the experts give good feedback (and help the rest of us learn from your example!)

I looove that first rug Deco posted!

The sectional looks ginormous in your room. It’s my experience that you need a very large room for a sectional to fit well.

I’m sorry you don’t like it.

For those on the hunt now you need to place tape or cardboard on the ground to map out the size and get an idea on space.

In your case try rotating it.

If that doesn’t help then accessorize and move on.

I think you need a larger unit under the TV and some large art. Because, the size of the sectional over powers other furniture.

Nice colour and nice house, As Katrina_ellen suggests, you can detach the pieces and play around. On team rug+accessories.
