I don’t think it looks bare, I like how it looks as is but the pendant lights will be the perfect addition. Maybe some more decor on your counter top too.

I'm guessing you're just not used to it - it looks fine as is, not bare. With your striking table fixture, I think pendants would bring visual clutter.

I'd suggest living with it for awhile.

Another vote for no pendants. Just wait a bit until you get used to not having something there :)

Counter stools with a little color, or natural wood could warm up that area a bit

I’ll add my vote to no pendants! Your ceiling would be too cluttered with hanging lights. You said you removed cabinets- from over the bar top I assume - to open the space up & your result is great. I too think you just need a “period of adjustment“! I’d also vote no on more decor for countertop. Keep a simple table centerpiece after holiday stuff down.

I agree no pendants - perhaps keep an eye out for a long, narrow something to add color/texture to the wall behind where you have the red vase. Is red your usual accent color or are the vase/table settings there just for Christmas? Google "tall narrow paintings" for ideas....

I am a fan of neutrals, but I agree Choclatesnap that maybe some color on the stools will add more interest.

Looks great to me. As others have suggested, my first thought was that you just aren't used to that open feeling yet. Also, I don't think you need a pendant or pendants...there seems to be plenty of light at the counter. My kitchen is open to the family room, too, and I too enjoy being able to see the TV when cooking!

I agree, no pendants. The 2 ceiling fixtures you have work perfectly together, and pendants would interfere and clash. Also, I’m not usually a fan of white appliances but yours work very well in your space. Live with it for a while, and you will grow to love it!

Another vote for no pendants. I think you are used to having your vision blocked and you need to wait awhile before you add anything above the counter.

Thank you all for voicing your ideas and opinions. My DH took down the same cabinets for a neighbor. She felt that it was too bare, so then I started questioning the look. You all validated my feelings, plus I do not want the place to look too busy. We will start the backsplash in a few days, then onto appliance shopping. Thx again!!!
