Behr isnt a bad paint. In fact, their Marquee line is excellent. I dont know anything about the enamel you used. Does it state on the can, that it should be used on cabinets? Generally to get the best diy paint job on cabinets, you should use a paint that is meant for painting cabinets. Your 123 primer is a good primer, but, is most likely water based. You should have used a shellac based, or an oil based primer.

I think it may be the foam roller. I had similar problems with foam rollers and satin sheen paint when painting window trim. I had patchy areas that looked satin or glossy and others that were not. The 4inch foam roller I used that gave me these problems the most was a black dense foam roller purchased from a Sherwin Williams store. I tried another brand from Lowes and the packaging said to pre-wet for best results. So you may want to try a new or different brand foam roller or even try those flocked foam ones and pre-wet it to see if that helps (if you aren't already trying that). You also might want to consider getting a paint sprayer if the rollers keep being a pain. Good luck!

Any imperfection you see after sanding will telegraph through your next coat. I wet sand with 320, 400, 600, up to 1000 grit. The "wet" is either water with a few drops of dish soap or mineral spirits, depending on paint used. Dry with micro fiber to remove slurry, then completely dry and wipe again before recoating. Final coats should be thinned with Floetral and water. Foam or micro fiber roller. It helps to paint in a cool environment where the paint has plenty of time flatten before drying. You should be able to get super smooth surface finish, but it takes multiple coats and lots of effort.

IMO if you back roll you have issues and also the best way to paint cabinets is to spray them in a dust free enclosed area .

How have they held up since you finished them? We used scuff defense on our walls and love it so we are planning to use on our cabinets too. I haven’t seen any info/reviews from people that used that paint on cabinets to see if it works well or not.
