This is one big room. Do I need to do this room a different color?

Can I do the juted brown with red brick as accent wall?

I'm not sure an accent wall would be my choice. If that home would be mine I'd go for a warm neutral, like BM Smokey Taupe, SW Diverse Beige 6097 and define the areas with great art, lighting, and maybe a rug for dinning area.
Another great red is BM Mexicana and it' gorgeous with Smokey Taupe.

You could have Smokey Taupe in the living area and Mexicana in the dinning area, under the rail, and smokey taupe above it. Balance by adding accents and details.

It should be lowered. It's hung too high. :)

Hung too high. And you need something underneath it - a console table, demilune or buffet. Art is hung at eye level regardless of how high the ceiling. It would probably look better over the sofa on that big wall.

When you paint, please paint the air vents the same color as the wall.

Instead of a huge coffee table, consider "drink tables" which gives you the option of choosing several different things that will add character and interest. It's a popular trend that is more flexible than a big coffee table -- nad it eliminates a lot of clutter!

Chocolate brown if you want a nice cozy look, If modern is you think, I would live it white, add a rug 'not to big because you still want to show of that beautiful floor'"
then some black, orange or golden frames around, your brown picture frame I see above my comment is nice but not modern, a coffee table, with simple but nice decorative pieces on it. ex: a small plant, books and candles.If not, you can just use the color of a HUGE work of art along with the table and other stuff I mentioned above. and i'm sure you will be able to see your way through. :)

What about a very soft grey/silver or a pale sky blue. Then let the art work and furniture elements pop with color.

If you dialed down the color of the walls then it may be nice to color pop the column!!

The walls brandywine (lightened a little though - it will look darker once it is on the walls). Keep the columns the trim color for now. Depending on how dark the walls look after you paint, you may need to darken the trim/columns or you may like how they "pop".

I would suggest squaring off the columns if you can at some point. Too classical looking for the style direction you are going. I would love to see a better shot of that area showing the complete column.

How about 7708 rustic adobe or 7709 copper pot, close to brandyvine but lighter, so the floor and walls aren't the same color. I'd use one of them or jute brown or even the terra brun as the main wall and under the chair rail color.

I like the two colors in the post above. That W-H-I-T-E sofa needs something to make it stop screaming...

Love the floor, try to match it to the walls or show off the walls. Grey to show off the floor or a light cream.

Choose a medium classic grey for your wall colour. It's always the right choice, especially for today's modern or contemporary feel.... and large art looks fantastic against it when added later!

Hi folks. Can anyone tell me whether there is an iPad app that will display different wall colors in a photo like the quad pictures shown above? Have been searching fruitlessly. Thanks so much.

I'd like to see some cooler colors in the room. The floor is beautiful, but a huge expanse of warm orange. Also, if you decide to forgo a rug (which I agree with), there is a need for texture. The leather and concrete are hard, smooth surfaces that need the company of warm textures via pillows and accessories.

Leave neutral. Get huge piece of art with the same reddish colors as in the pillows. Less work. More time to enjoy.

Thanks mforr :) the iPad app lets you do all the editing and wall painting, the iPhone one has the colours but not the painting a scene. The painting scene on the iPad app works well, should be very useful!

The inspirational photo submitted by regina5697 seemed as though it might well be a valid approach. Colors and elements from that photo were combined with the original photo submitted by irisferguson in order to provide an example of a cooler environment. That is, of course. with a bit of artistic license on my part.

I really like the cooler environment Rick Alexander suggested. The floor is beautiful but overwhelms the space and needs to be interrupted with a rug, textured like, maybe, coarse basket weave, not patterned, and I'd prefer a neutral color. The beauty of the floor speaks for itself, but the color is very heavy and focusing on it's color will make for a dark room. I feel the room would be better served with the floor simply being a backdrop.

The scale of the room and the sofa are grand, the columns add to that feel. Very large art over the sofa, or maybe a pair of paintings......all with very simple framing in silver, or no frame at all....in cool colors, would keep up the "grand" scheme.

Love the elegant, sophisticated feel of the columns. I would play up the elegance and blend the sleek sofa into the more traditional elements with silver items, maybe a little crystal. I'm thinking large plain crystals, not small busy ones, on a silver dining room chandelier, glass crystal lamp, etc. updated transitional, not contemporary. Oh, and pillows on the sofa......I'd pull out the same cool colors as in the artwork.

Regina, above shows a great room. Cool gray on walls. I love the whole room. Panels and color with brush nickel is perfect. Love the lime green as accent in art and pillows. I would follow this room in design. You can't go wrong.

This sectional is huge! Too big for that space. Your home appears to be traditional and the sofa is super modern. If you could return it and find something else it would be great . Your home is very nice and I don't think this sectional works!

I would add a area rug. Have a border all away around it. Don't push under sofa float in front of it. Maybe a soft dove gray shag for texture. Like bamboo shades mixed with panels on end of windows. Floor to ceiling. As in Regina Houzz photo above.

On rug 5x7 is big enough. Just a accent .

Another thought, Irisferguson. If you prefer a more casual room, I'd do this: keep the artwork, do a sisal or jute area rug, use antique silver or iron accents ( like the iron and travertine in cocktail in regina5697's room pic, but with less contemporary lines), skip the crystal, add natural burlap panels on each side of window, add a couple of burlap pillows to the sofa, ans wrap the columns with burlap, woven sisal or jute (cut a rug to size and glue it on), or neutral, very textured grass cloth.

That's cocktail TABLE! No iron in my cocktails!

This is the best suggestion of this room!

I feel like there's a bit of a "culture clash" with the earthy, warm, old world appearance of the floor (which is too beautiful to cover!), versus the sleek white sectional. I'm thinking organic modern could make the two come together so accessories like the one Margo suggested would be a good fit.
I agree with Collette that a wall color which is a lighter version of the floor color would help the sectional stand out and connect the walls to the floors.
