Looks about right. They're slow at first!

I would be disappointed after almost three months for that amount of growth. Possibly a nitrogen issue or a lack of sun? Still too close to the winter solstice?

Depends on the temperature. Things will grow slowly if it's cool. I start my onions at 75F, and in ten weeks they have three leaves, which means transplant-time. Your mean outdoor temps are only about 55F.

I started my onions in late October (it was too hot until then) and that's what they look like right now. Same with chives.

Glad to hear others have similar results. Probably mostly temperature. They get a lot of sun, I amended the bed well before planting, and I fertilize with fish emulsion every 2-3 weeks.

I feel your disappointment! I had a late start because of the high temps, and my greens have been just sitting there for the last 3 months, even with mild weather, tons of sun and regular feeding. Soon it will be time to plant warm weather stuff for me, and still no cool-weather harvest in sight. I don't have much usable planting space, so it's rather frustrating.

That's how I do leeks and chives so makes sense would work for onions.
