Divide the room into two spaces. Place the sofa on the wall facing the front door.

IKEA has solutions for an entertainment system on the inside wall where the floor mirror is now. Make sure you can swivel the t v, whether it be a table or wall mount. Now add the two chairs just about where the coffee table is now.

Use the far end of the room as a dining area. You will want a rug around 3’ larger than a table (all around), so you could find an inexpensive rug…let’s just say 8 x 10 for that area which will cover a good portion of the brown rug.

I think I have a very similar blue rug... And we have oak floors that bring in a warm tone similar to the carpet. I think what you have works but needs to be scootched closer together onto the area rug.

What about placing your sofa opposite where you've set the tv and rotating the rug 90 degrees? Leave space behind the sofa for a walkway and allow it to "float" in the room, letting the rug define sitting area. The tall mirror could go on the wall the door opens towards.

Place the sofa in such a position so when you walk in the door the back of the sofa

is on the left side and move furniture around then take other pics.

A mirror should not face you as you walk in the front door.

You will probably have room for a dining table in there then.

get a rug big enough that the front legs of your couch and chairs are on it. something with a simple design. your current rug is pretty but it's drawing the eye towards the carpet. so I recommend something monochromatic in a neutral color that's lighter than the carpet.

also note that layered rugs tend to creep and buckle like crazy, so you might want to opt for something fairly thick and/or stiff. having your furniture on the edges will help anchor it.

there are so many blues and greys in your furniture. I think that adding warm toned wood furniture will balance that out -- such as in your TV stand, side tables, or console behind the couch.

in addition to what I said above -- honestly, I think the red/orange pillows need to go, and maybe the round ottoman. (what shade of blue is it? navy might be ok, but the way it looks in the photo, it seems like the wrong shade of blue for this room.)

for complimentary pops of color, think desaturated teal (light or dark) or navy. (are those big pillows navy or dark teal? either way, I like them.)

bring in some more gold accents too!

jute style would look fantastic, if you're ok with the texture. or even a softer rug in a light beige or warm white. something with an interesting texture.
