Are you sure that the strip is not screwed in?

Try removing the end pieces. If they come off, then the top cover should also come off. Then you will be able to see if the bottom piece is screwed in.

not sure how to accomplish either removing the end piece or the bottom of the strip to see if it’s screwed. they are both pretty tight.

You should be able to pry that top piece off with a flat head screwdriver. But, before you do anything else, you really need to disconnect the wiring.

I think I agree with the above - I suspect the half with the darker color snaps on/off to the white piece above. The white piece is affixed to the ceiling.

If you adjust a pair of channel lock pliers so they squeeze the lower part in at the seam, it should just come out. Because the outlets will probably come out with the cover, disconnect from the power first (and turn it off).

The plug cover snaps off and the unit is screwed in place. Here's an installation video:
