What is wrong with the railin? What is your climat? Do you have elderly relatives or friends who are frequent visitors?

I don't know if it's the railing that bothers me, or the colors of the trim, shutters, and painted steps. Maybe the railing isn't the problem? I don't have any visitors with mobility issues. I live in Oklahoma. So cold and icy at times in the winter, hot summer. We enjoy extreme temperatures in both winter and summer with lots of wind.

I think you have a lovely home. I also think the shutters look cheap. Take them off and don’t replace. The color of the shutters isn’t bad as it blends with the brick and the roof, so you could use that color for the trim. Or even a deeper shade of that color.

The railings could be upgraded to another style, but have you checked local code to see if you could go without railings? Personally, I’d want railings of some sort. There are some cool looking ones made of aluminum and wood on Pinterest

Another upgrade would be to top the concrete with facing bricks or stone.

Just want to say you are so fortunate to inherit such beautiful gardens!! What are your favorite colors? What colors are you using indoors? Im sure we could relate the exterior to some version of that.

It’s good to have a railing. Ask a landscape designer to give you ideas for replacing or improving it. . Maybe you can grow vines all over it!
