Hi! Want to put a direct vent (I think) gas fireplace insert in an existing masonry (wood burning) fireplace. Goals for the project:

1. Increase warmth in a fairly small living room during winter months

2. decrease smells and draft from existing wood burning fireplace... it’s original to our home built in 1978. We’ve had it cleaned and inspected every year for the past 3 years that we’ve owned the home, but can’t escape the draft and smell in summer and winter months.

3. have a sealed fire without concerns for polluting or decreasing our indoor air quality

QUESTIONS:

1. What is the best way to install a direct vent gas insert to preserve indoor air quality? Some install instructions call for a b-vent which I thought wasn’t good for IAQ.

2. Are there good brands/manufacturers that people have had good experiences with? Or brands to stay away from?
