Can I ask why a brand new brick house was pressure washed? And you say using a commercial company would be 12K but who did you use for this? And if it wasn't a commercial brick company that knows what they're doing, isn't this the hard lesson that shows you to not "cheap out" on things like this? Sorry for the trouble you're having. But for sure I would be getting someone in there pronto, and from what I know of bricks, it's not really supposed to be "pressure washed", I think the setting is supposed to be very low on the "pressure." I see the blue undertones in one picture. But overall I think I’d leave the brick for now. If you must change it. I guess to a very watered down, light whitewash. But I’d probably wait and live with it for a little bit first

It had a construction red clay ring around the bottom after being built. When they pressured washed it away I guess they stripped the sand blasted finish off about 3 feet up from the ground stripping the brick bare. To correct that they showed up with the pressure washer and stripped the entire house to match. None of my doing or asking. My builder found apparently one of 2 people in our state who supposedly specializes in brick staining. So it wasn’t me, it cost him $7,000 to fix it to this to this mess I that I hate. But the Stainer was awful to work with and basically unresponsive. Trust me this is not what I wanted ever thought I would be dealing with. We’ve been in our house 2 years now of me trying to live with it. My builder doesn’t know I hate it, it was such a long process that I didn’t realize I hated it until a few months after he was paid and it was done.

If you’ve lived with it and still hate it. It should change. Sample some whitewash and see if that does the trick for you.

I'm sorry you went through that, I would have been utterly livid. Now I'm wondering if they damaged the brick by power washing it. Was the brick meant to look aged originally? Or is that the effect of the power washing and staining?

I played with Dyebrick a couple of years ago, which l think is a fine product for small projects as a DIYer but I can't imagine doing an entire house on my own. Think of how difficult it would be to avoid staining the mortar.

Do you know if the staining company used a white wash on the brick? I think a lime wash is probably your best bet. It could look truly beautiful.

Also look at Romabio, they make masonry paints and washes.

In the first place you should never power wash brick and honestly why did you do it on a new house ? Why build a brick house at all if you wanted someting in a wash?

Thank you everyone for your responses. I’m looking for the best options to help make the house look better from a design point. I in no way had any part of power washing it, none of it was my doing. By builder tried to fix it for me by bringing in someone who specializes in brick stain. The guy was really hard to work with and there was miscommunication in what he thought I wanted. Now I just want to get it fixed into something I can live with. I agree colorful landing could help.

suggest whatever you ultimately do about the brick that you remove all the shutters on the right side of the house and add shutters to the window above the entry

You need to plant something in that nasty red clay or you'll be having to clean the brick every year. Plants and heavy mulch will help keep the mud from splashing on your home. To change the color, I would use a Romabio product with a 20 year guarantee. Here are a few of their colors.

Find a Romabio contractor in your area, get a price and see if something can't be negotiated with the builder. You have the pictures to prove the contractor changed the appearance of your home.

Thank you for posting updated photos. I hope this doesn't offend you but I prefer the "erroneous" look as well. But if you hate it, I really would look at a lime wash. Some of the other suggestions would really make your house stand out from the crowd. Good luck and post updates!

Thank you all for your responses they all make very valid points. I will definitely be trying some of those suggestions. It was these groups of pictures I thought I was getting. And maybe it’s definitely close, it’s just the blue undertones vs the brown more natural undertones that I guess I’m fixated on. Our neighborhood is very natural, brown toned, and earthy. And I don’t think my house would look bad anywhere else. It just sticks out in my opinion as not really belonging. I’d rather it be creamier and earthy I guess. I’m new to the Houzz app and came looking for help to figure out a solution. I’m not sure how to tag people individually when responding, but I am definitely thankful for your input and responses.

I also don’t mind the current. But it seems your after whitewash. Just try it out. You can wash it off if you don’t like it. I think you’ll feel so much better once you try it. Love the downspout , hydrangea suggestions too.

why do you want your house to look like everyone else in the neighborhood? you keep saying earthy tones. What's wrong w/cooler blue tones?

Can I assume the company that did this to your brick refuses to rectify it for you? if they did it without you requesting it, and there is no contract saying you wanted it done, then why aren't they on the hook for fixing it for you?

I don't mind the current brick color, but I think you need to change the shutter color. right now everything is very dark and dim.

you might also consider wrapping your posts w/cedar, maybe doing a creamy white shutter.

planing some white flowers in the beds will also help

try these colors. a soft white on the trim and garage, cedar posts, and a softer blue/gray for the shutters and front door.

I don't think your brick colour looks bad with the neighbours' homes. It is a little different but not in a bad way, I definitely wouldn't try to change the colour again. It's neutral enough to work with.

Attractive landscaping will make a huge huge difference and that's where I'd spend my mental energy and budget.

Possibly a different shutter colour but only after the landscaping is done.

I don’t think there is anything odd or wrong with wanting the house to fit in well with the neighborhood. I often base judgements about exterior improvements on how well it is going to look in the entire context of the neighborhood.

One thing I noticed later is that when you posted pictures of what you were expecting the results to be based on pictures, those pictures you posted all show brick houses with white shutters and trim. So before you do anything else, cover up at least one pair of shutters with white paper and see what effect is has on your perception of the brick colors.
