Should I repot my areca palm?

I bought this areca palm about 3 weeks ago and it's been doing quite well so far.
The plant is comprised of about 50 shoots, the tallest at a hight of about 1,5 m (5 feet I think).
The pot it came in is a plastic pot with adequate drainage, but I find it kinda small for the plant. It has a diameter of about 30 cm (1 foot?) and it's filled with a black soil that seems kinda.. dense? I watered it about 2 or 3 times (I flush it, and I only water it when the earth is dry to the touch - I stick my finger in it about 5cm).
I've been reading about areca palms and it seems that it would do better in a lighter soil.
I'm not sure if it also needs a bigger pot though? Is 50 shoots to much in auch a small pot?
I like the volume of the plant and wouldn't separate it, if it's not absolutely necessary.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated!
