I had this installed in our Master bath. It has been pretty foolproof. I will say the fabricator sealed it with a color enhancer and it turned darker than I liked. I wasn't asked about that ahead of time. Make sure the sealer isn't color enhancing.

I ended up going with Fantasy Macaubus. the Ocean blue was much more expensive and I couldn't get a sample to test. No backsplash yet...

Do you like your Fantasy Macaubas? I have 2 slabs on hold for me kitchen(just for the island!) but wanted to know about durability etc. any feedback?

@Kim L That sounds like a huge island! Fantasy Macaubus has been perfect. At first I was worried about oils and wiped the counter all the time, but after 6 months I've gotten lazy and don't always wipe down the whole thing immediately. I have had no staining. Even near the stove where oil and grease get splattered, it looks like the day it was installed! y husband likes red wine and has dripped that on it and it wipes right up. We did get 1 tiny chip in the island, I don't even know how it got there. I had originally wanted a Quartz counter (white with fake marble look) but my husband wanted this, and now I am so glad we got it. it is truly a beautiful piece of stone that I enjoy looking at every day. I love that it is unique and not like what everyone else has. Highly recommend.

Love to find this thread as I have Macaubus Fantasy going in next week. It's been a long haul of many slab yards to find what I'm looking for. My personal preference is a busy colorful quartzite like Ocean Blue or Aurora Borealis or Alexandrita, but I'm sure I'll be selling this house sooner than later so I went with the best of both worlds with the Macaubus vs doing a plain quartz which is more in style around here. Love the pics here!!

We just had fantasy macaubus installed a few weeks ago. It looks beautiful but we are having issues with staining and chipping. Our fabricator used a 5 year sealant but it stained from a clean, empty bowl sitting on it. We have also found 5 small chips that we have no idea where they came from. We have barely used our kitchen and are already having issues. We are still working on our cabinets but I posted a picture of countertops and backsplash.

Is it staining or etching? Are you sure it is quartzite and not dolomite or marble?

Is that a hood vent above your countertop? Where is your range/cooktop?

It is supposedly quartzite. I had a clean bowl sitting on the counter for a few days and this mark was left underneath (picture below). Not sure if it would be considered staining or etching as I know nothing about countertops. You can also see a chip a few inches above the circular mark.

Yes, that is a range hood. We are waiting for our new cooktop to be delivered. The fabricator wanted to wait until it was here to cut for it.

I just looked up etching and I think that's what it is. Now I'm going to clean all of my dishes to make sure nothing is on them to cause more etching. Have you used an etch remover that you could recommend? Thanks! I appreciate it.

It could also be a stain. I would let the fabricator deal with it. What kind of warranty do you have? My marble and soapstone counters came with a one-year "repair" warranty for staining, chipping, etc.

I did let the fabricator know. They have come out to fix some of the previous chips. They are supposed to come out next week to look at the countertops and figure out what to do.

our quartzite seems pretty indestructible .. i don't let stains sit, but my husband had left a couple drops of red wine/olive oil that I didn't catch until the next day .. all is well, but I hope not to make a habit of it! We have azul macabaus quartzite.

I was the OP - We ended up choosing Fantasy Macabus due to lower cost. We've had it for about a year and it has been perfect. However, I did notice we recently have a round stain that appeared out of nowhere. I think it was some kind of oil - it matches the bottom of the Pam can. I have spilled olive oil on it plenty, so my feeling is that there are some parts of the stone that are more impenetrable than others. The area where our stain is looks similar to yours - it is lighter grey and fewer lines in that part.

Since you have quartzite, it is not etching. That only happens with marbles and dolomites. It is a stain. I tried (unsuccessfully) to remove it by covering the area with a baking soda paste and and then laying saran wrap over it for a day or two to keep it from drying out. This did not pull the stain out, so I think we are just stuck.

Your kitchen looks amazing! The fabricator is coming out to try to get the stain out and to reseal. The company we bought the slabs from contacted the sales rep they use to try to figure out the chipping issue. I have found even more chips. They said they are "pins" and can at least come out to fill them.

I had a few tiny pin holes at install, we never did anything about them and they haven't gotten bigger or anything. There was a rough area where the white quartz crystals were on the polished edge. The installers were able to put something (glue maybe?) on it that filled the area, dried and then they polished it. So far (1 year later) no issues with the repair. Hopefully the chips you are seeing will have the same success. I am kind of careful with oil now but nothing else has been a problem. Good luck!

We had Fantasy Macaubus quartzite kitchen countertops installed last week, and it is so beautiful. My question: is anyone with Fantasy Macaubus putting (or planning to put) hot pots from the stovetop or baking pans from the oven directly onto the countertop? We were able to put hot pots and pans on our previous Giallo granite and I am not too sure about the new quartzite.

Hi, here is my kitchen with Fantasy Macaubas Quartzite countertops and backsplash. Once I saw this stone I knew I had to have it in my kitchen. I love it!

Arlene, I was told quartzite is also heat resistant like granite. It is actually a stronger stone than granite. 👍🏽

@Arlene Cale Quartzite is harder than Granite but not all stones are made the same. Some quartzites do etch and stain where others do not. Same with granite. I have the Ocean Blue quartzite and I would not put direct heat on it. I did have a cutting board made out of the material and I will put stuff on that but not on my actual island top.

@Lisa: Both Granite and Quartzite can stain, as can marble. There is variability in how much staining realistically happens with granite or quartzite, but I understand there is quite a lot of staining with marble (I don't have it). However, only marble or dolomite etch. This is due to the marble chemically reacting to things like acid - it actually changes the stone so the smooth shiny finish is disrupted. You can see etching when you look at the stone from the right angle with the correct light - you can see where the finish isn't as shiny. This can actually be repaired by polishing. Or avoided by getting a honed finish. Granite and quartzite are non-reactant so they do not change = no etching.

@S C - I was the OP for this thread. We ended up getting Fantasy Macaubas because it was less expensive. Its been almost 2 years since it was installed and it is wonderful. We had a ring of something on the lighter part that I thought was oil, but it went away after a few months, and I don't see anything there anymore. I was very careful for the first 6 months, then kind of careful for the next 6, and now anything goes. Grease, oil, butter, red wine, saffron: its all been spilled on the countertop. I don't worry about cleaning it up right away (after dinner is good enough as it gets wiped down then). Looks perfect. We got one chip in it from someone banging a pot down. One of these days I'll get the fabriator out to fill it in again. Do it you won't regret it. I posted photos somewhere above in the thread.

Just throwing my Macaubus in the mix! I installed mine last summer and have since sold the house but it was beautiful! I did have an issue at fabrication where copper blooms that are in the stone came through during cutting, it made me second guess my choice but I kept with it. I really didn’t notice them once it was installed.

We are putting in this countertop and looking for cabinet paint color ideas. What color white would recommend and are in the kitchens above as well as an island color option? Did anyone stain the island?

I'm a bit late to this party but we were torn between the macubas and a Fantasy Ocean. Honestly a Florida Wave and a Fusion the yard had would have went well too. We chose the ocean fantasy, we have the midnight blue style cabinet. Very similar decision making process to OP. Il update when it's installed next week

be too dark? So hard to envision.

Wow! Thank you! Looks amazing! Im wanting to do full backsplash! We have wood floors so im insure if it'll be too much movement with the grains. Our kitchen isn’t very big.

Thanks!! I'm hoping to finish it up. (I had an issue with ceiling preventing the crown molding completion)We were nervous about it being too dark but everyday goes by and we still love the counters. Also have not had any stains chips or anything and that's with living in + construction site.
