You should be ok with a weighted gauge if you have the right weight for your altitude.

I agree, as long as you have the correct weighted gauge, you'll be good to go.

My extension service told me that a weighted gauge was better than the dial gauge, because the dials get knocked around and then they are not accurate.

My old All American has both the dial and the weighted gauge, but I ignore the dial.

I got all the parts for the canner, installed them and did a test run with just 3 inches of water in it. Amazingly the gauge works but I will depend on the weight for accuracy.

Hurrah! Those old canners were just so nicer and heavier than the new ones are.
