Best Potential New Owner of Wisk?

last modified: 5 years ago

I brought this up in an earlier comment thread, but I thought I'd make this an official post. If Wisk were to make a return for the North American market which company (besides P&G) do you believe would be the best owner and why? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I had to look up Wisk, because I was born overseas and moved to North America as a young adult - I'm guessing Wisk was before my time. Here is a vintage commercial I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeakPcsccyY no doubt would be considered too sexist now :).

Oh wow, thank you for sharing! I believe Wisk has only been gone since 2016 give or take. But yeah I honestly wish it was brought back to be a premium competitor to Tide and Persil. Choice and Competition is good for any market. I don't wanna see P&G or Henkel get lazy and stop making quality products.

    Henkel

Mark, Henkel acquired Wisk from Sun and then discontinued it in favor of Persil.

I personally voted for SC Johnson for a few reasons.

1.) Wisk would give them a proper detergent entry into the laundry market.

2.) they are the makers of the incredible Shout brand and could incorporate some of their highly effective surfactants into certain variations of Wisk. That would make a heck of one two punch!

3.) SC Johnson is a marketing genius right up there with the likes of P&G and could do a very good job promoting the Wisk brand.

I take that back, I just realized that eCover is owned by SC Johnson. But I still believe they should acquire Wisk to give them a regular detergent brand as well.

I've lived in North America, in various places, both in USA and in Canada, since 2000 and I never noticed Wisk! Ha! I really don't know why. I remember missing Persil and Ariel when I moved, Tide doesn't even come close to it, in my opinion. I bought Tide just that one time and that was it :), I strongly dislike it.

Thank you for posting that, I'm looking forward to trying Wisk if/when it will become available again here!

Wow now Hamma that isn't something I hear many people on here say about Tide lol. Thank you so much for sharing.

If Wisk were a strong competitor to modern Tide I would likely use it. Just would like the old school scent though!!

Laundry Mich, that is unfortunate indeed. I honestly do wish there was more competition in the Laundry industry. I really don't want P&G and Henkel to be the ONLY two competitive giants in this industry...this tends to lead to laziness and a decline in quality. I know Church and Dwight is doing their thing with A&H, Oxiclean, and XTRA, but still..this is really concerning.

Laundry Mich, who owns the current Surf powder now?

I care about quality of products, but I couldn't care less what company owns them. I think I'm in the majority in this thinking.

For what it's worth, I mix up my own homemade laundry detergent, and it is THE BEST, especially for white loads. I can usually find the ingredients at Walmart, but sometimes I can't find them all in one trip. Don't underestimate the quantity this recipe makes; you'll need a good-sized container in which to store it.

    Homemade detergent

    4 lb, 12 oz Borax

3 lb, 7 oz Arm & Hammer super washing soda

    3 lb OxyClean

4 lb Arm & Hammer baking soda

2 14.1 oz bars Zote soap, grated into small bits

2 55-oz jars Purex Crystals fabric softener

Mrs. Pete, that's completely fair. Totally understandable. I guess for me personally I just want Wisk to come back to the States. And just believe that if Wisk were to come back some companies would manage it better than other companies would, given their track record. The reason I didn't include P&G and Henkel is because these two companies own the majority of the laundry market already. I just want there to be healthy competition and balance in the laundry market.
