My first hoya import

I placed this order with My Home Nature after my other AH Hoyas order (which I have yet to receive). The process with MHN was really easy. Good communication, including an email letting me know they had shipped on 04/20. Two days later, here they are.

They look pretty good! The roots are a little dry and some may not be totally viable. But I don't think they look too bad. I made tag labels for them. They are soaking in some water with Super Thrive overnight.

Now comes the over-thinking part where I try to decide if they should go in leca or soil. Thoughts?

Those look great popmama! Does MHN have a long lead time to ship?

LECA has proven to be almost magical when it come to rooting plants for me, but the transition could get rough. I've broken more than few roots and rotted a couple more. I still really like rooting in a mixture of coir and perlite and maybe that causes less shock when transitioning to soil? There does seem to be room for making cuttings and trying different things if you're up for it... Happy growing!

Popmama, what exactly did you have to do to get those? I might try it seeing how nice they are. Good for you)))))

Do they make you pay for a certificate?

What seller? Can you give me a link?

Worth they if they look that good.

    Now for the biggest question?

What made you choose those? Something special about them? Fragrance? For leaf shape? Would love to know what drew you to those that came from across seas))

    Details for all!

    These came from https://www.myhomenature.com/

They are located in Hong Kong, China.

I ordered four plants March 26, they sent me a shipping confirmation on April 20, arrived April 22

My total invoice had a shipping charge as well as the phytosanitary cert $39. I did not apply for an import permit for these since I only ordered 4 plants.

Worked out to about $40 / plant.

I soaked them overnight in water with SuperThrive. I saw some other people on Youtube do that, so I kinda just followed along. But I'm not sure it's necessary to soak all the foliage.

While I do have some hoyas growing in leca, I still prefer a chunky soil mix. For some reason, that just feels more comfortable to me. Since these already had some roots, I did go ahead and pot all these up today in chunky soil mix. Just hoping for the best.

Sooo...it's look like this site has hoya loheri! it's marked "new" so could be a recent addition. I stopped myself from ordering because I'm waiting for a rather large order but I remember we were chatting in one of the threads about it. Whoever gets loheri first, I call dibs on a cutting for sale or trade 😁

    Good question, meyermike!

The one that really prompted me to order from MHN was cinnamomifolia. I had seen the blooms of that plant somewhere recently, probably on Reddit, and fell in love with the contrast. I almost never buy a hoya for the blooms because well, they don't always bloom. One has to love the foliage first. But the bloom of cinnamomifolia was so enticing to me. I had looked for the plant for a few weeks online and was unable to find one that looked good and had a price I was willing to pay. When I saw that MHN had it, that pushed me over the edge for purchase.

The next one, parasitica, I loved because it has those thick, heart-shaped leaves and some splash. It sort of reminds me of an old carnosa but with heart-shaped leaves.

I ordered minibelle to see how it compared to that NOID hoya I got a while back on ebay. Plus a couple of years ago, I had ordered a minibelle from another source. When it arrived, it was not at all a minibelle and the invoice actually said something like "backordered, substitute with obovata". So I never got my minibelle.

Lastly, the revolubilis was added because of an unboxing video I had seen about MHN. I liked the look of it. So what the heck? It's the smallest of the plants received but has a very nice leaf shape. Again, one must love the foliage before the flower. IMO anyway.

Thanks for asking! It was a good exercise in justifying my purchase. Ha!
