Thanks. Does this dark stain show lots of dirt/scratches?

This floor certainly isn't for the faint of heart. Dust and scratches are very real drawbacks for this type of finish. Ultimately, it comes down to your lifestyle and what is practical for you.

If you take a look at the images I've attached, you'll see another version of dark wood floors that will be a quite bit more forgiving. As you can see, even in the dramatic powder bath, this floor fits in perfectly.

what is the color of this stain? Is the high gloss the problem? Thanks!

This is an oak floor with a custom walnut satin stain.

The high gloss from the floors in the original image is what makes the floors so dramatic and reflective. It is also what makes them show any dust or imperfections over time.

Would the ebony stain work without the high gloss? I have 3 kids so I want them dark but not high maintenance. Thanks!

Your best bet is talking to whoever is putting the stain on (or where you purchase the materials if it's a dyi) and ask them. DIfferent products have different strengths and weaknesses.

Any chance you can give us the brand name of the stain? Is it Minwax? They have a dark walnut, ebony and jacobean stain. Which one would be the closest to the picture with the satin finish? Thanks so much!

The stain was a custom mix that the builder had made to get it this dark. Not sure what brand or brands the flooring contractor used, sorry! Best of Luck!!
