I was very excited to get a rose I thought was gone forever. I have adored the rose Rokoko , and had it in Tennessee . Heirloom carried it and they happened to discontinue it when we moved. I had no idea and I had left it behind to be surely plowed over !! A very kind gentleman on hmf gave me cuttings this spring and every one rooted . I am so excited to have it again . And don’t want to part with any of them now ☺️

Aww Vap, I am so happy that you have found your Unicorn rose and that it is thriving. It is even more special when you have had to baby it to get it to this point. What satisfaction you must be feeling.

More pictures from today I really wish my camera could capture the true intensity of its color which is quite a departure from my generally staid palette.

I really appreciate the white reverse which helps tone it down. Am I the only one that grows this Rose?

LillyFinch , I remember you growing Rococo in Tennessee. The name really suited the rose and I'm so happy you have been able to replace it in spades! The more the merrier!😊😉

You may be, vaporvac :-). Only 4 photos on HMF, 2 of them being ones you posted, and only 3 gardens and 1 vendor listed. I think it's amazing you found it at all! Congratulations -- the colors are wonderful -- should be an especially striking climber..

It's also great that it has a degree of hardiness. Paul Jerabek bred in zone 5 for Z5 and this was so tiny when planted I was really worried it would not make it, but it was not a problem.

Thank you Jay Jay. Funny you should mention that because I have another of his roses called Peggy M and that is described as being similar to mccready's hand-painted roses I think this sort of coloration was a Hallmark of Paul Jerabek's.

What an interesting rose! I don't think I've ever seen another one quite like it. Hard to believe such a pretty thing is a climber hardy to zone 5. It's a shame it isn't more widely grown. I hope you'll share photos as it gets some size.

I will be sure to do that. And if I get opportunity to see the mother plant this summer I will be sure to take plenty of pictures and report back. It IS a shame it isn't more widely grown! For some reason the description captured my imagination and reading it was widely considered his best climber I just felt I had to have it.🙃

1. I have Carl Schroeck's lovely Emma June, also from Peter S. I'm anxious to acquire some more, especially as I think my favourite Peggy M has faded away in a couple of very harsh winters.

Oh that's too bad. I'll ask my sis later but I was trying to recollect, I believe Peggy M was named after a dear friend, Phyllis Martin who was a teacher and long time friend of my grandpa. Both my grandparents and Phyllis and her husband would go to the symphony together with their season tickets. Phyllis was an incredible human being--smart, and kind and active--she was in a sewing group at Euclid Ave. Congregational church that met regularly to make lap blankets for cancer blankets at the Cleveland clinic I believe. I would love to grow that rose b/c I adored Phyllis.
