How old is this unit? Mod# & Ser#?

It sounds like fan motor noise. However, when a system runs low on freon it's not uncommon for unit to make odd noises.

The freon leak themselves are silent, unless the leak is really bad. But those bad leaks -- you won't get far.

I service the Katy, Texas area.

recently, my AC has been less efficient in cooling the house. It struggles to bring the temperature down by a lot.

Low refrigerant is one of the causes of an AC struggling to perform as well as it did in the past. If the refrigerant is low then there is a leak.

Did the tech recommend repairing the leak and adding refrigerant?

@Austin Air Companie I will take a look at the Mod# and Ser# and let you know. But the unit is 9 years old. I am in Northern Virginia. Thanks!

@mike_home he said he will have to confirm that it is a leak by doing additional tests which need another service appointment - he will also find where the leak is. He didn't say anything about adding refrigerant.
