I saw Japanese Beetles on milkweed in a field yesterday, and they seemed very fond of it. I'm sure some will find the beans soon. They like my Voodoo Lily leaves for some reason, they can't really hurt those much, maybe they will be attracted to those.

Yep the JBs are emerging here. They like our zinnias, corn tassels, and the persimmon tree leaves the most. We gave up on growing roses & grapes a few years ago.

Here, they like wild grape new leaves the most, followed by hollyhock, hibiscus, light colored roses, and plums.

Saw my first one today. It was trying to get out of my rain gauge which is full of water. They like my green pole beans.

The JBs started showing up here yesterday.

Have any of you used Captain Jack's Dead Bug to control them? It's supposed to be effective against them.

Squishing them between you finger and thumb is highly effective. Try to catch two humping, keep those eggs from being deposited. I have no pity for them, I must admit.

I haven't seen any here yet. They like my pole beans but I didn't didn't see any on them yesterday. They also really like my horseradish leaves.

I looked for the JB traps at HD a few weeks ago but they didn't have them out yet. I usually put one out 50 yards or so from my garden and it seems to work well. My next door neighbor also hangs a few around their yard 100 or so yards away.

I saw one today on my raspberries. Beasts.

The first couple beetles appeared here today. They seem especially attracted to soybeans - like pretty much every other leaf eater, four legs or six. They attack my pole beans too, but only at the very top. The only other crop they seem interested in is okra, and then only late in the season (when they begin eating the flowers). "Zebrina" flowering mallow makes a good trap crop, so I let some plants grow along the outside of the garden - where I can then spray the beetles with a soap solution.

Some of the pheromone traps work really well - and some don't. I've had good results with the Bonide traps, which really reduce the numbers in the garden. With 4 traps out, I catch 200-300 per day, and 2-3 times that during peak hatch. I empty the bags daily into a bucket of soapy water, and rinse the bags clean if necessary... they last all summer.

Was hoping that yesterday's heavy rain drowned the JBs here but this morning they were all over my sweet potato foliage having a fun time chewing it up. I took a hand sprayer with soapy water and gave them a good shower, they didn't like it one bit, nyuk. They'll probably start to migrate back to my zinnias but I'll be watching out for the buggers.
