Advice on bad tiling job!

I chose a backsplash tile that has an inconsistent pattern so the awful tiling job is not that noticeable. However, the really awful part is that it wrapped around to the side wall and the worker started from the end of that section and ended it in the corner! Argh! Would you agree that it should be the other way around? What would you do? a) ask for refund on tile and labor b) ask him to re-do the whole thing (although he may not have the skills) c) ask him to redo the small section that goes in the wrong direction. Also, there are two gashes in the butcher block countertop! (

The tile job is fine. The tiles in the corner are not running the wrong direction - they are just the pieces that can fit so your tile could run to the edge of the countertop. It's much better to have full tiles at the end of the countertop where you see them more than back in the corner. For the butcherblock, that can be filled in with wood putty or filler, but you should let the tiler know not to be cutting anything on the countertop.

The ‘Gashes’ in your photos appear to be natural flaws in the counter, both appear to be from shrinkage. How are you planning on finishing that for tenant use (and abuse)

Also that does not look like butcherblock to me with that rough finish. Also is this a food safe product? The stain would have me asking questions about that, but that rough finish will be a crap collector for certain.

Sanding, filling and mineral oil I guess?! Not sure how long it will last!

The tile arrangement looks okay. Some vacation rental properties give new plastic cutting boards to tenants to protect their countertops. Cheap and effective.
