but just for the heck of it.. find the root flare ... pull back the mulch.. and gently excavate and see if its seriously too low .. take pix.. report back ...

I know they have been growing around Bar Harbor, Maine. I love these trees.

I planted two in my yard and will spend many a Summer afternoon watching them sway in the breezes. They ware purchased mail order and now they tower over everything! Yes, they seriously need space, but having said that, I have to assume that being so seriously buttressed, they must surely tend to stand erect and not be the victim of wind damage.

Thank you for helping to restore them to North America and their prehistoric, native range.

Are you near Coastal Main Botanical Garden (Booth Bay)? I was there in 2014, and they had a grouping of ‘Ogon’ that were exquisite. It looks like yours have plenty of room to develop. Nice.

I am about 1.5 hours North of the botanical garden in Boothbay. I just got reservations for Oct. 11....I'll have to look for those trees.

The grouping of Ogon Dawn Redwoods at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens was incredible. There must have been at least a dozen trees....all looked healthy and were getting quite large!

Neat picture. My Ogon has a smother trunk than either of my regular species trees. Those are even smoother.

Dawn Reds display a decent Winter silhouette. And just you wait..., growth rate is un-feakin'-believable! Like nothing you've ever seen before! Happy Holiday. This one came mail order several years ago, now it keeps the bamboo grove behind it in check..., if not, check mate!
