You don't indicate where youa re, but if your ground freezes then so will any remaining potatoes; and, frozen potatoes don't survive. I would say that you might as well dig them.

I had two plots of potatoes last year and I was unable to plant in those plots this year. They grew a nice crop of potatoes. Nice large Kennebecs. That plot looked like I had planted it. The other plot I still haven't dug up. I expect a nice crop of Canela Russets. These were volunteers from potatoes that I missed when digging them up last season. I would guess they were from small potatoes but possibly a large one or two? They obviously made it thru a winter here in Pennsylvania.

I have dug most of the potatoes yesterday and today...mostly Kennebecs. Some of he largest were from volunteers that I let grow.

Thanks! Every year I have several potatoes come up in the spring from the year before - so they definitely froze. I am in zone 6 - I think your profile shows your zone right? I am going to add it into my name like others do GREAT idea!
