Hi Sherry. I'd recommend soft, full drapes -- picking up the colour in your cushion -- plus a simple blind for extra privacy. And can I persuade you to a rug? This is the roughest of drawings, no drape in the drapes, and I think the rug would look a lot better if it had pattern, but it might give you an idea. Night time for me. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the picture! It helps to visualize. We are thinking of putting a rug in that area as well. We have done a complete renovation of the kitchen and living room so we are still in the process of getting things done. The trim has been one of the last items but I have been stuck on this window. I do like the look that your idea gives!

Hi there. Some fabric roman shades could also be nice, and can be ordered with a top-down, bottom up option. I would outside mount it above the frame to make the window feel bigger.

I was going to recommend the top-down/bottom-up type shade as well. I have them in my living room where I face west & need to pull them up in the afternoon & evening, but during the day I leave the bottom 3rd of the window covered with them, as I face the street and like privacy. I suppose you could still do curtains if you wanted, but I'd probably do that last. It's an outside the window attachment, and with the bookcases so close to the window it might appear a bit crowded. The blinds by themselves might be enough.

You need to soften this room with nice window treatments (no pretty window to expose), a nice area rug with some color, and anything to pull away from the "wood crazy".

I don't plan on changing any of the furniture around,at this time anyway. The floor plan is open to the kitchen. The couches are currently against the only 2 walls in that space. There is a 3 sided fireplace just to the left in the picture and a railing along the right side. I'm liking the idea of blinds and side panels in a lighter shade to lighten the room as well bring in a area rug too.

How do you feel about bringing green into your space? If you are looking at getting a rug also, I would get the rug first and pull your curtain color from there. Even the blinds - before you start looking at samples, get the rug. You will be surprised at how many shades of neutral or white there are in the blind world! Once you have the rug, the rest will go much easier. I'm suggesting green because it seems like it would l,ay well with the brown of your furniture, the gold in your cabinets, and the mocha/taupe of your walls. Based on that one little sofa pillow in your pic, I pulled this rug from Pottery Barn selection, along with the pillows.

Good morning Sherry. You're getting great suggestions -- but I particularly like the soft green Karemore has suggested, and that wonderfully pretty Pottery Barn rug. It even looks as though the plain green drapes would work with that rug -- I think it has a similar green in it on a very small scale. But I also love the pattterned drapes she chose.

You can do a nice roman shade to add some color and style,Graber or hunter Douglas has a lot of color and fabrics to choose from.I would get the roman pleate not the flat fold.

With the window in 3 sections but encased in 1, would you put in 3 blinds? I'm concerned about too many drawstrings hanging down for appearance. I do like Roman shades though.

Add panels to end only. Then a bamboo shade one, that will cover all windows.

How do,you watch TV. I would put sofa n wall looking at TV. Push bookcase agains wall not angled. Put mirror on wall that would reflect something. Put chair where sofa was add side table. Push v so against wall not angled.

Hi Sherry, I think keeping it simple and clean with a Honeycomb TDBU shade style with a bamboo/batiste textured fabric would go a real long way. You would be able to take full advantage of the size of that window without compromising privacy or light control and it would keep consistant with the warm natural feel of the room. Just my thoughts :-)

Thanks for your suggestion! There is a sofa on the wall to the left that faces the TV. I do have a couple of mirrors, 1 bigger one and then the smaller one above the TV. This is not our main TV area. We have that in our family room but we do occasionally watch a program here and there. I could move the bookcase and put in on other side of wall couch and then move end table to that end possibly. We have a 3 way fireplace just to the left of picture but it comes out from the wall about 3 feet plus the fireplace length which divides the eating area and living room.

Comfort Shades- Would that be one shade? Is it a top down/bottom up? And am I able to put in one with no drawstrings? If you have any pictures that would be great. I googled your suggestion.
